    IP 35e cpu fan problem

    Hi
I have an IP35e that is less than 6 months old and yesterday it decided to stop running the pcu fan.
It did warn me of this situation with a continous warbling sound.
i checked the bios settings and tried everything i could think of to no avail. i then updated the bios to the latest one listed on here but that made no diference.
i have tried another fan and that does not run either so i believe it is a problem on the board itself.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Andy

It is quite rare that the boards connector would fail, the fact it is beeping at you means that the monitoring pin is still working at least, have you tried plugging the cpu fan and the other one you tried into one of the boards other connectors? it is possible you have 2 duff fans, though unlikely.
If it is the connector at 6 months old your board is still in warranty so you should be able to get it replaced, another option is if another fan header is working, have your cpu fan plugged into that (the system fan header is right next to it on the ip35e) and disable cpu fan fail in the bios.

i did think of that but the cpu fan is a 4 pin connector and the system fan headers are all 3 pin connectors.
the 3 pin header next to the cpu fan header is working with the case fan connected to that running ok.
i could modify the cpu fan connector to make it fit a 3 pin header but then the cpu fan would be running at 100% all the time.

was the warning for low fan rpm or for high. temp?
it's quite possible depending upon settings for the board to decide that the fan isn't needed & turn it off.

the warning was for fan failure, nothing about temps or rpm.
but i plugged it into the system fan header and it worked there but obviously that is not ideal.

fan failure warning will be based on low rpm ...

Re: IP 35e cpu fan problem

    hello,

What was the temperature of your CPU?

If it was cool enough, the board will have dropped the fan voltage so low that there is no longer enough voltage across the fan motor for it to keep spinning.

For example, some case fans will not spin when at 5V. When my mobo is cool, 5V is applied across the case fans. With certain fans, they would simply stop spinning, the sensor would pick up 0RPM, and an alarm would sound.

To prevent it from happening again, just increase the RPM settings for the CPU fan - this will stop the board from dropping the voltage too far. Or get a better fan.

    Hope this helps.
