Question Abit IP35 Pro and Corsair PC8500 XMS2 RAM

    Hi all,

    I've just installed this stuff, 4GB (2x2GB) Corsair TwinX DDR2 XMS2, PC2-8500 in my IP35 Pro board.

This replaces the 4x1GB of Corsair XMS2 PC6400 RAM that was in there. I was having real problems trying to get the PC6400 RAM to run at 800Mhz with 4-4-4-12 timings, regardless of voltage tweaks.

I installed the new RAM (two sticks), and set the RAM speed to 1066, with timings of 5-6-6-18 and DDR2Voltage of 2.1v (as specified).

When playing GTA4, or Company of Heroes, after 10 to 15 minutes of play the PC freezes, with lots of weird static noises coming from the speakers. This requires a hard reset. Other games (less demanding on CPU and RAM) such as COD4 work fine.

Is this likely to be a coincidence, or is it probably the RAM? If the RAM, would it benefit from higher DDR2 voltage, or higher northbridge etc, or would that be barking up the wrong tree?

One thing I did notice, that I was not expecting: Both Company of Heroes and GTA4 perform significantly better (smoother, less slow downs or stuttering) with the new RAM. I wasn't really expecting much of a difference, just thought the new RAM would give me better head room for overclocking in general.

(PC spec is available in my profile btw).

    Thanks for any advice,
    Muts.

Try running Memtest and or setting the new RAM to 800MHz and run some passes of Prime or OCCT to make sure its stable.

CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Re: Abit IP35 Pro and Corsair PC8500 XMS2 RAM

800Mhz seems to be fine. I'll stick it through memtest and see what I find.

Just wondering if anybody had found that higher ICH voltages were required (than the normal 1.25v)
