    Temperature problem with GD8

I have an Abit GD8 motherboard with a Pentium 4 processor. For some time now I have had the most peculiar problem which appears to be temperature related and I would be most grateful to hear from anyone who has had a similar problem or can advise me.
Basically if I simply switch the PC on cold the various lights (disk access etc.) come on and immediately go off again - the PC is dead The green power light on the mother board remains on, and to proceed I have to power off the mains switch at the back.
To make it work I must first warm the whole PC with a fan heater for 10-15 mins.
Once it is warm I can switch it on, but the disk access light simply comes on and stays on and nothing actually happens. At this point I can turn off the fan heater.
After around another 10 mins, during which time it is presumably warming up further, it gives a beep, the disk light goes out, and the BIOS proceeds to boot.
From this point on it runs fine and is completely problem free.
It has been suggested that this is cause by a dry joint or similar bad connection on the motherboard, however this seems to me to be unlikely as it has been like this for a couple of years now, and once it is up and running it is fine, whereas I would expect a fault on the board to give intermittent problems even when it is warm, or for the problem to get steadily worse until it doesn't work at all.
One thing I have noticed is that if I run System Information for Windows and look at the Sensors information, it shows:

    Temperatures
    Value Min Max
    TMPIN0 40 °C (103 °F) 39 °C (102 °F) 46 °C (114 °F)
    TMPIN1 40 °C (103 °F) 40 °C (103 °F) 40 °C (103 °F)
    TMPIN2 41 °C (105 °F) 39 °C (102 °F) 44 °C (111 °F)
    THRM 40 °C (103 °F) 39 °C (102 °F) 45 °C (112 °F)
which seems to show some of the remperatues as being quite close to the minimum, and TMPIN1 having no latitude at all.
I don't know if these are significant, and I wouldn't know how to adjust the settings if they were.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated (other than "get a new computer" which is the obvious option :-)

    Re: Temperature problem with GD8

its your power supply or motherboard, only way to know for sure is to replace one at a time.

couple of years means nothing to be honest.

    Re: Temperature problem with GD8

I have seen this before. Its caused by failing motherboard components. Normally the ones around the processor.

I would recommend that you get a new motherboard as theres no point spending time and money on somethings as old as a GD8.
