    XFX 7950GT XT compatability

    Morning all (just)

I have recently purchased the below setup: -

    AB9 Pro
    C2D 6400
    XFX 7950GT XT

To cut a long story short I was getting video corruption on the BIOS screen which would then cause a BSOD during bootup. This would go on for a few reboots until the BIOS corruption stopped then all would be OK. After some testing with a collegues almost identical setup (cheers d3fiant) we come to the conclusion that the GFX card was dodgy.

Scan have tested and said no fault found but they are aware of an issue of BIOS GFX corruption between these cards and the AB9 pro.

Can anyone confirm this for me and advise on a replacement.

I will have to check with our head office but as far as I know the issue hasn't been raised with us yet.

OK, I have now ordered the Leadtek 7950Gt instead, was going to go for the XFX 7950 XXX but cannot be sure I am not going to get the same issues. I know the Leadtek one definately works.

    Hi RAYK47!

    First of all, my system:

AB9 (none PRO) BIOS ver. 15
    E6600
    2 x G.Skill 1024 MB DDR2-800
    EVGA 7950 GT KO superclocked

Two weeks ago I tested the XFX GeForce 7950 GT 570M Extreme in my system and its functioning very well. So XFX cards and the AB9 wasn't a problem to me. I returned the card to my dealer because its getting too hot, I got more than 100 °C GPU temperature while in 3d mode. This passive cooling thing isn't my taste when the cards is getting so extremely hot, so I ordered the EVGA.

Today I got the EVGA, and guess what I'm experiencing? .... Exactly (!) the same probleme as you have with the XFX card

Sorry about my bad English, I didnt pay much attention to my english lessons long time ago

    Hello fella

My problems were not anything to do with cooling as the issues were from cold, the card would perform excelently for hours when it finally booted up.

Sorry to hear about your issues Propella, how long ago did you purchase the equipment and where was it from?

I know sopmeone else who has a cooling issue woth the same card, i think he ended up adding some sort of fan or heat sink.

I don't think the problem he has now is temperature related - he says its exactly the same as you are having.

If anything, the fact his problem is with an eVGA hints at the fact its not XFX related, but 7950 related.

But is this a probleme with the AB9 and some 7950 cards, or is this a typical sign for a damaged 7950 card

I can't test the card with another board, and RAYK47 only tested his card with two AB9 boards.

The 'incompatability' does not seem to be recognised anywhere but when I returned my card to Scan they found no fault saying that they were aware of compatability issues with the AB9 Pro and the card I purchased. Since then no one has been able to confirm this from ABit. I have a friend who has the Leadtek 7950GT and that seems to work OK in his AB9 Pro and also worked when I stuck it in my board. I have ordered one of those instead.

I am not sure it is a sign of a damaged card as when Scan tested mine they said they found no faults but on both my AB9 and my friends the same corruption occured, so there was definately a problem with the card and AB9 boards.

I would suggest returnig it to the supplier and getting them to test it, maybe informing them of the possible incompatability issues with theis board and that card.
