Another update:
I tried standby again with a normal boot and again it failed to resume so I tried uninstalling CCC to see if it worked and it did - the system has resumed fine every time I've tried. This isn't a gaming PC and the default drivers seem to work just fine so I'll leave CCC uninstalled. I'll try to contact AMD/ATI to inform them of this.

Thanks for keeping us informed about this problem. I was trying to check with tech support regarding this issue before I reply to you. I find that Its really weird how CCC is causing this problem. Please keep us inform as some people might have the same problem. Thanks!

Just another update: uninstalling CCC didn't fix it although it may have made it less frequent. I think I may have narrowed it down to having youtube videos open in Firefox. My 5 days or whatever it is MS support has expired and I'm not paying 5 million pounds to get email support from them, but AMD support were VERY helpful in trying to help me resolve this issue. I may try contacting the motherboard MFR as that's about the only thing left i.e. BIOS or something. I may post a thread elsewhere asking others using Win 7 to open a few tabs in FF including some YT vids and see if they can recreate the problem. Does anyone know if MS have a bug report email address or something I could send this to so they can look into it?
