iPod Mini Price Reduction!

My mum just called up the stairs saying that on the radio they said Apple are reducing the price of the iPod Mini!

Don't ask me any details, lol Just a heads up! Looking for news articles at the moment...

i heard something about this on the radio this morning.. as they were challenging the fact that it retails for $199 in the US, and even with VAT and the exchange rates mean its still a lot less than £199... their argument was something about them releasing it outside the US in aprile...I realise that the cost of the unit does not soley depend upon the size of the harddrive, but still a sub £100 price tag would be very tastey indeed

£100 buys you a creative muvo nx with 128mb RAM.

do you think that apple would THRASH the compeitition, bringing out a high quality, luxery item at such a low pricepoint?

Christ the muvo 4gb retail for over £200!!!

I would hav e said £150 would be a MINIMUM price, though i expect it to go for £200.

Ouch, they want £279.90 for the muvo² 4GB.. but then you can normally get things quite a bit cheaper then creative's own shop, unlike apple..

you might go for physical storage over size, but not everyone, including myself would, there is a market for them, they're not replacing the bigger iPod, it's just a different product for those with different needs. i would have bought a 'big' iPod a long time ago, but the size has always put me off, i don't have a 40gb music collection, while bigger is better in storage terms 4gb will serve me fine.

if they reduced the price to £150-160 they would absolutely dominate the opposition though, there would hardy be any mp3 player out there worth buying that wasn't apple, i don't know whether this would make good business sense for apple though. for £180 with my student discount i'm still going to have a tough time not buying one.

Basically apple are ripping off the uk market , its about time users stood up to be counted and refused to buy their products until they sort the price inequality out

Add to that the tight control they put on export of their stuff . . .

their price disparities are no different than for similar products from other companies.

I know their are other companies that do it also, but they dont prevent you from buying their products from the usa

Apple don't stop you buying stuff from the US either?

There is summat in the warranty terms that says if the device can run on it's own power then it is covered worldwide etc. So hence laptops and iPods are covered.

I know my Powerbook is fully covered, so not sure about an iPod, but I do want to by my 40gb'er before I go to New York in Sept so need to find a better option.

Try ordering apple parts on a usa site and seeing if they will ship them to the uk. They wont they are not allowed to by apple. They will ship any product as long as it isnt apple's to the uk . Trust me I've asked a bunch of places all had the same answer.

Most of this fuss is because of the extreme exchange rate at the moment.
