They look good but are they? Hoping someone here will write a review.

Thanks Infinite - interesting review.
The thing is; what would people choose they are so similar...
I'm thinking of ordering one. I had a play in the Bristol apple store and they are great.
The only two things are making me hold off is the delays on them via apple's store and the cost.
macbook doesnt have firewire which sucks cuz its way faster than usb and doesnt use cpu power. but i love the new trackpad, i can see myself getting used to it.
gonna get one from the states this christmas, i cant wait!!
lack of fw is a bit odd after apple were the ones that created and developed it...times of change?

Looking at the review (Infinite posted the link), the thing which puts me off the new Macbooks most is the glass screen - if you look at the pictures, the reflection on the new Macbooks is a big problem unless you plan always to use your Macbook in a dark room. I was waiting for the new Macbooks to come out but am now looking at the older Macbooks - I thought they might have dropped in price but that doesn't appear to be the case. I am wondering now whether I should forget the Macbook and go for another Sony Vaio.
to be really honest in those conditions shown in the pictures even the matt screen is pretty bad. its not as bad as they show in the pictures at least in my opinion. i still prefer glossy cuz the colours are much richer and everytime i clean it i dont have to fear that i can scraping the lcd layer off. these glass surfaces are much more durable.
ohhh and if you are thinking of vaio then you should really do your research carefully. they have some of the worst hinges (fujitsu is the worst in my opinion but vaios are quite bad). also they usually dont come with a decent gpu although i must admit that if you are using a laptop then performance is always forgivable.
I've now ordered one doh. The screens are much better than those pictures show. Even on a sunny day next to a huge glass window they were good.
I have a Sony Vaio at the moment and have not had any problems with the hinges but I will bear it in mind if I decide to get another one - thanks for pointing it out Mighty Mouse. Funny you should mention Fujitsi Siemens, I had an Amilo and the casing cracked all round the keyboard - Fujitsu were not too helpful and it was only some time later that I discovered complaints on the internet of identical cracking on Fujitsi's Amilo's.
Thanks Gordy - please post when you receive your Macbook - I would be interested to know if you are pleased with it. I am going to to have a look at them before I decide whether to buy or not. I have seen some of the older ones still for sell so am debating whether to go for an older model or the new glass screens.
Will do though I should note I mainly use my laptop with it shut as I have a 20in display at home. I will try to use it as much as possible open to give you some more feedback on the screen.
ETA for the order is the 4th I think so it's a wee while off yet
It's the one thing thats piss poor about apple it's the online store. Waiting over a week for a standard spec machine isn't really acceptable these days.
Thanks again Gordy - will look out for your review. Is there any benefit to buying it from the Apple Store? I was planning to buy from John Lewis as you get the extra warranty.
Depends, you can get discounts using the apple store such as quidco and student discounts. Which JL will not give you. So it depends on your needs/budget.
Yay my macbook arrived! It's stunning, it makes the old macbook look like a fisher price toy. And my macbook pro look dated.
Just checking it over before doing a fresh install. So far though I love it. The screen seems fine, and I don't have the hdd bay being loose issue. I do have the f keys issue I think, but I'm not bothered by it as I know I can fix it if it annoys me.
