Re: What Mac have you got?

I've recently gone over to the dark side too - MacBook Air 2011 13" - and I'm enjoying using it very much. I still can't quite believe that I'm now a Mac user; I slagged them off for years (though some of my criticisms of Apple still stand!) My fiancee has even bought me a t-shirt with 'Mactard' on it (it's a long story.)

Spotted Gordy's set-up on another forum too, very nice!

Re: What Mac have you got?

I'm going to buy an Apple laptop for the first time and I don't know which one to get; Macbook Air or Macbook Pro?

I just recently build a £1,600 computer however I wanna pop my cherry! ;D

I must admit the Macbook Air looks really slick and the overall design just grabs my attention however the Macbook Pro is just for decent specs

    Decisions, decisions ;D

Depends what you mean by decent specs. My understanding is that the latest Airs are just as good performance wise as the equivalent MBPs. The only real difference between the two is the screen size and graphics performance. Of course it all boils down to what you plan on using the laptop for...

I just want to use my laptop for just general browsing, watch videos/movies, chat etc. Plus I'll be taking photographs and editing them, so nothing major I guess.

I was thinking to go for the new 13'inch MBAs

I've got a lovely red one. It folds up into a pocket it has within itself.

Re: What Mac have you got?

I've been a bit slack on here, I upgraded the macbook to a 15" macbook pro some years ago now, but the mac pro is still trucking on (even though it's been upgraded a tad...)

Seriously temped by an ipad at some point though..

The 13in mba will do all of that with no fuss. The 13in mbp is a bit of weird choice now. Unless you need tons of storage without using external drives, the MBA wins out.

The 11in MBA is a truly amazing bit of kit, it can do so much with it being so tiny. I'm glad I waited for this version though as the i5 really makes it shine.

Re: What Mac have you got?

Just added a new 128GB M4 SSD to my 13" MBP - like the air, but too restrictive
now all my computers have SSD - even the netbook (SSD cost more than the netbook )

Why is the MBA restricted? I'm tempting of getting the MBA over the new iPad..

Ports, lack of DVD drive and expandability.
e.g. I can and have upgraded the RAM and HDD on my MBP

Of course an MBA is a full laptop, much less restricted than an iPad
But they're different things - for me the iPad doesn't replace a laptop for general use,
but its great for casual web browsing, pressreader and games.
