    PC-MAC networking with OSX 10.1.4

Ok Ive got my Clamshell ibook here and its running OSX 10.1.4 atm

It could run panther but i dont have the funds to buy it so 10.1.4 will have to do

I'm having problems networking it to my windows XP machine to transfer files and/or share the internet connection in my house.

I am connecting via a switch and 2 ethernet cables.

the mac is assigned an ip of 192.168.0.9
    and the PC is 192.168.0.16

I can ping the PC from the mac but i cant see it in finder. therefore cant transfer files etc. BUT i cant ping the mac from the PC, or see it in network neighbourhood etc etc

i'm not sure why its not working, as as far as i can see it should do ;/

possible reasons why could be - i have 2 network cards in my PC, one is a wireless card which connects to my netgear router to give me an internet connection [ICS is disabled btw]

not sure why this would be a problem but still its worth mentioning.

I have no firewalls active or anything else that should block a connection

Any ideas? any help? any guides? does OSX 10.1.4 support/include SAMBA?

OS X includes samba, go into Sys Prefs > Sharing, and turn it on (Windows Sharing)
Lemme know what difference that makes.

In a different post I included simple instruction on how to turn on the ftp server in OS X. Click here to see.....

That way when it's running you goto your PC, type in the IP address in your ftp client/browser and that's it!

Go to the user accounts settings and enable the checkbox to allow windows users to logon to the mac. You can also go off the "Go" menu of the finder and select "connect to server" where you should see the windows PC listed. Bit more info (admittedly for 10.2 but still useful)...
