You can change the AVS options for how much CPU usage it can use, and it can get up to like 80fps on a 1.4ghz T-Bird.

I don't like iTunes. It does nothing special and the only thing remotely special (buying music online) is not something I would do anyway.

Have to say I don't get the fuss about iTunes. Its a pretty basic player IMO. IF you don't have an iPod is there any point downloading it if your not going to buy music online.

the smart playlists & library are nice.

but the list of huge bugs & UI problems i find gets bigger & bigger.

so i'm still on winamp for now

I've been checking out the Winamp 5 beta myself. The modern skin is very nice. Nothing too different so far anyway.

4.1.1 is a fix for massive bugs with Win2k

that just leaves not so critical bugs like playback stopping when you leave a screensaver, cpu useage hitting 100% when you leave a screensaver, no always-on-top, no tray-icon mode

Must say I'm really dissapointed with the new iTunes for windows. It really is very basic and does nothing terribly flashy, and it has been a real pain with my windows iPod (so I'm sticking with ephpod). It just lacks a few decent features like Musicmatch's Super Tagging, and it doesn't even download album art. I just think that there are a number of flaws and only one redeeming feature of the shared music function. Other than that I must say Apple have really missed a trick to try and hook in some more Windows users...

The sound quality of both seems better . iTunes works ok I guess. I haven't tried it on a slower PC yet though.

If you want a tagger program, get something called "tag&rename". It's great when you have your songs filename has all the information in it.

Had to get Quick Time installed in my comp the other day. Got peeved off when I found out the installation included iTunes as well. Tried it. Didn't like it.

The only saving grace it for me was the in-built radio channels it had. Good feature, but wasn't able to save it from being uninstalled.

When I first tried iTunes I didn't like it, especially seeing as it rearranged all of my music which did my head in, and spent hours switching it all back. I suppose it was my fault for not looking through the options before importing my music but then I shouldn't have had to. iTunes 4.1.1 fixes this 'option' though and disables it by default. I decided to give it a proper go and I have to say that I really like it. I love the smart playlists, the UI is good when you get used to it but the thing I like most is the graphic equaliser. Why, you ask? It's fast, and when you use the dance preset it makes all my music sound crystal clear. Love it!

You may also want to be aware that iTunes installs some type of CD burning service (have a look in your XP/NT/2K services list) which isn't uninstalled when you uninstall iTunes.

The iTunes download is big because it contains Quicktime, and Quicktime contains iTunes. Talk about bloatware and trying to push software

    Nightshade -what service is that?

I think Itunes is going to get uninstalled soon, and I don't like legacy stuff floating around.
Not that Itunes is that bad - i quite like it, and it does sound good, but it doesn't beat ephpod
