Thats the one. Wasn't there before I installed iTunes. Appeared when I installed it, and wasn't removed when I uninstalled. So it cant be put down to dependencies for other programs.Originally posted by directhex

I don't like that it installs that service and doesn't uninstall it. That could casue conflicts with other software thats already installed. The Quicktime isn't an issue for me since I generally install it anyway for looking at quicktime movies etc. I kinda like iTunes so far. Nothing to remarkable about it though. If I had a MP3 Player other than an iPod I'd obviously not be able to use it. I also have Winamp 5 beta, and music match installed. The later only for its supertagging, as I hate the MM interface. Sound Quality with itunes is pretty good I think.Originally posted by NightShade737
You may also want to be aware that iTunes installs some type of CD burning service (have a look in your XP/NT/2K services list) which isn't uninstalled when you uninstall iTunes.
The iTunes download is big because it contains Quicktime, and Quicktime contains iTunes. Talk about bloatware and trying to push software

I quite like it - reminds me of Sony's efforts for their net walkmans ("OMG Jukebox" IIRC)... Only it hasn't crashed as yet - something I couldn't say for the sony software. And AAC promises better quality than MP3 at an equiv. bitrate so well worth a go IMO.
Yeah, but anyone and his mother knows that OGG is better than MP3 and entirely free from licencing issues.

Whats a good OGG player. What are the Pros and Cons of Ogg?Originally posted by NightShade737

WinAMP plays OGG. Anything else just do a search for.
Pros - Very high quality at low bit rate, generally all round better quality than MP3, no licencing fees to use in software (free or commercial). No advertising or having to use a particular program to play it...
Cons - Loses some bass at very low bitrates (64 and 32).

What can I encode them in? Is there a CDDB for it aswell?
CDDB is supprisingly for CD's and nothing to do with encoding formats, its the database CD ripping software references to get the into about a CD.
EAC is the best ripper around and OGG works fine with that.

Only because it has been around longer....Originally posted by directhex
plus, MP3 plays on anything...
I agree with the directshow thing though, That really needs to get sorted out.

this program was great, but kept intermittently crashing my pc :/ took it off and it was fine again. shame, real shame.
