I wonder if any of you have any other ideas of a small car with 4x4 currently considering:-
sirion rally 4
sirion fourtrack
panada 4x4
yrv fourtrack
in that order.
Any thoughts

The Panda seems to get great reviews in general, but I have never driven one, so can't really help.
Not around too often!
Stupid question, why do you want the 4x4 drive train? I have quiet a bit of experience of full sized 4x4s.

rav4, suzuki jimny, defender 90 (not actually that big in terms of length) Id second the why question though.
If its snow/mud, id suspect better tyres on a car with a more powerful engine would be far more effective.
Only way into where I live is up a rather steep hill and in the ice/snow of winter (yes we get snow days) the only things in or out are 4x4's. My other car is a new style Terios, which my wife has pinched so I am looking for something that will always get me home but is also fun to drive.
I have a Defender 90 - its cold in the winter and too hot in the summer - and it will certainly get you up the slope assuming it doesn't break down on the way too or from the slope But they are so easy to fix when they break and fun to drive.
Measured up against my wifes mk 3 golf, its near enough the same length and width, think one was about 4 cm shorter other was 4cm wider, its just taller.

Thanks Nox but my wife refuses to have a landy I would get one tomorrow.
J4mes I had never consider the golf 4 motion I will now do some research.
Thanks everybody who has suggested so far any more comments are always welcome.
Hi J4MES the 4motion is only available in the GT spec in UK so puts it out of my price range.
Does look a nice car.
4motion.... oooh nice...

What about the new(ish) Nissan, The Qashqai? That has a 4WD variant and it's not that big.
Suzuki SX4 (Fiat Sedici), Jimny, GV 3dr
Renault Trekka if they still do it
Too big? Chap at work just bought an SX4 for the wife and she loves it.
The Panda was tested as the slowest accelerating 4x4 on sale in the UK in Evo last year. Then they tested the fastest by sticking it on a trailer and towing it up the pod!
(G55 AMG won )
Mind you it's meant to be excellent, just not driven one myself.

can't you just get a small, lightweight front wheel drive car, and put Mud and Snow tyres on it for 3 moinths of the year?
Get 5 rims from scrap yard, whack good knobbly mud and snows on, and keep in garager until Jan. Then swap them over and run it until March, and swap back.
Lots of small light front drivers are awesome in snow. 106. AX Corsa etc.
On ice a 4x4 wont go much better up a hill than a tea tray, so dont expect miracles with zero traction. But in snow, a little front driver and a pastic spade in the boot,...and you're laughing.
