    Car Insurance Companies

Anyone got any recommendations on decent car insurance companies? The best quote I have so far is on a Mk3 1.4l VW Golf, with Liverpool Victoria. I'm doing it based on being 18, with a full uk license for 1 month, and a pass plus certificate.

The best quotes I have so far are:

Fully Comp - Legal Cover - £200 excess

    Liverpool Victoria - £1167.86 / £110.75 per month

    3rd Party Fire & Theft - Legal Cover - £200 excess

    Liverpool Victoria - £1056.92 / £100.23 per month

I've tried Bell, Elephant, Churchill, Direct Line, Tesco, Quinn Direct, Swinton, Endsleigh.

Try adding your mum and then get a new quote. I know it sounds strange but give it a go. Its something to do with the fact that she will be driving at times and is a lower risk than you so costs go down.

Eg just me for a 1.5 Terios sx with full protected no claims and a full license for 20 years £375

All the above + my wife £325 a £50 saving.

Those quotes are with my mum as the main driver with her 6 years no claims. I can't afford a car of my own at the moment, so am going to share hers for a while. At the moment her insurance is £200 for the year, fully comp .

    Two things to think about

first by sharing her insurance you are not earning any no claims bonus for your self so when you buy a car insurance will still be expensive. At these sort of costs it my be better to buy a (small group1 insurance) old banger and insure it in your name so that you build up your own NCD.

Direct line offer NCD for any named driver on somebody else's policy that way you are building your own NCD.

I had a policy in my own name and cheapest I could get on a 1.1 fiesta was 1100.

So i dint have a vastr amount of respect for it.

try quinn mate they are v good on small engine cars for younger people, but dont buy a 2ltr before your 15 as they dont do insurance on under 25s on 2ltr or above

As said, Quinn Direct are quite good. I went with Hastings Direct in the end as they were even cheaper than Quinn

My cheapest quote was through Chris Knott brokers, but Adrian Flux were up there as well (both normally use Highway Insurance Co, though with Chris Knott I was able to specify going with Zurich at the same premium). They were way cheaper than anywhere else (£250 as opposed to £450 elsewhere, for a 1.9 TDI Fabia, 3 years NCB). However this is partly because they offered special rates for Briskoda members, though I think they do deals with other forums and may be worth a go. Or try Adrian Flux as well - although I didnt go with them they did send through the whole policy in the post for me to have a look, and was then able to use it to show other innsurers to match/beat the price.
