    Car Insurance

Anyone got any tips on getting cheaper car insurance? I'm being quoted around £2000 Third Party Fire and Theft on a 1996 1.2l Corsa LS. This is based on:

    18 year old male
Full UK license held for 1 month
    Pass Plus
    Living in M22
Car fitted with factory immobiliser and alarm, and parked on driveway

Cheapest quote I've found so far is £1700 with Liverpool Victoria.

That's insane... Try Admiral ( I say that too often) or DirectLine.

I tried Direct Line, £2300. Tried Bell Direct (part of admiral), £2900. Putting parents as named drivers raises the quote :/

Hmm... not looking good. try cia-insurance.co.uk, they had a good quote for my bike.

I think a lot of them use the same risk-value generator tbh (direct line and tescos were identical for me down to the pound)

2 grand for a 1.2 corsa? Woah, that's insane. Best quote I got on mine was quinn direct, but I see you've already tried them. :/
Tried elephant? They have pretty good rates for new drivers.

Start with confused.com as that tends to trawl the slightly less well know brokers who might have special deals on. They have targets to meet each month so end of the month is usually a good time to push for a cheaper price.

If you see one that looks promising give them a call and ask them what's the best price they can do. Simple fact is, you'll almost always get it cheaper speaking to a person than online. I do that with Elephant every year and they always knock off £40-50 because salesmen want their commission.

I used to work for a broker (as a web designer) so I know that it's almost always possible to get a cheaper price than the one they quote first time. You just have to push for it.

Give Endsleigh a go as they used to be quite competitive for young drivers. Elephant (add you mum if she's got a clean license, knocks about 15% off my premium) are best for me but I'm 26 with 8 years NCB but still worth a go.

What did you put the value of your car down as? it shouldnt afect it much though for a car that old (since you will onlyl get what they think it would be worth). Only other thing that would do that is if you chose 0 for excess (voluntary?). Since its 3pf&f you probably wont make any damage claims (as opposed to my-car-has-completely-melted, or removed-from-existence type claims), so stick it as high as you can.

Living in manchester is going to be the worst thing though, not sure on M22 wish i could find the thread with the details for each postcode.

Try Adrian Flux, I know people hear bad stories about them, but i have just insured my 1.8MOndeo for £418 FC with 4years driving, 3NCB IAM and my gf on the policy, closest match was Post Office at £500

    £2k on a 1.2 Corsa is insane.

Do you live in a postcode where people get shot on a daily basis or something ? That's insane !

Look for new insurance companies, i.e. big companies that are new to the insurance game like the Post Office, Asda, etc. as they often price the policies down (even making a loss) to get into the market.
