    car insurance..

    anyone care to explain this??

    was bored and looking round for insurance for next year (mine expires in may), im 21, will (hopefully) have 1 years ncb and driving for a year. nipped onto tesco who did me last year, and they quoted me £520 for my 1.4 volvo (14 seconds 0-60, not the fastest).. fair enough i thought, thats a bit less than last year. then decided to try a few other cars.. turns out the 2l 360 GLT (quite nippy - 0-60 in 10ish seconds) is only £610 a year! then looked up a 1.8 golf (which my mate is trying to flog), that ended up as £800, despite being slower than the 360...

    volvo = pipe and slippers
    golf = burberry cap brigade

    (ok maybe being a bit harsh here, but I'm sure you all get the idea)

    as Angus says - it's all to do with the sorts of people that are insuring the motors.. if all the roodboys drove 1.4 Volvos, the price would be astronomical - just try getting a quote for a 3 year old Fiesta and see what happens....

    Indeed, probably why it only cost an 18yr old with 1yr NCB (me) £1300 for insurance on a group 12 car (Alfa 147), because most Alfisti are middle aged 'sensible' people.

    Which I'm not

    Hah, I did an online quote at churchill and it turns out that I would need to pay £2400 for a Peugeot 306 1.8, well I'm 18 which could explain it.

    I dont actually have a drivers yet, still taking my lessons.

    actually, 240s are bizarrely expensive - £200 more with the same engine as a 360 (despite being a loooad slower).. 960s are probably quite a bit with their nice v6 engines in.. perhaps they realise bigger volvos can do more damage when they run stuff over?

    daft.
    different insurers are willing to insure different risks. the way to prevent themselves insuring risks that they don't want is to overprice them.

    evidently, elephant want you business, whilst the AA would rather you took the train. (or got insured by somebody else and broke down )

    Try CIS Insurance if you're young and getting silly quotes, they were hundreds cheaper than anyone else for me

    I was quoted under £900 for a brand new Mini Cooper, and I've only been driving a month or so

    how old are you though stoo?

    once you're over 21 or 25 premiums seem to go down a bit anyway

    25, but I think the lack of driving experience makes up for the age
