Quite a lot of people I've haggled with recently haven't been very keen on going much lower than their asking price, but the one's I've been looking at have been priced very low to start with compared to the Parkers / What car valuation.

I bought a brand new corsa D a month or so back, we payed cash for it and Vauxhall would'nt give any extras at all! we had to give the the sales man 20 pound extra for fuel as there was no fuel in the car had to pay extra for the car matts aswell......... Says it all
Haggling hey .
Reminds me of the time when I was trying to sell on old MGB. One guy who came to see it asked...
"What is your bottom price?"
So I replied that if he paid the asking price for the car I'm sure we could come to a amicable arrangement .
The Man with the Silver Spot
I dont consider myself a mug for paying an extra 60 pounds!
Maybe, you should spend 60 pounds on a few lessons to make your manners better, and that, would stop you being so rude! I did not sign up on Hexus to be insulted by a complete stranger............
Now then, the correct flame would have been:
At least I know the correct for of you're to use. I suggest you go read your dictionary while you're sat in your ivory tower.
</tounge in cheek>
Seriously though, its always worth remembering you can walk away. No matter how perfect a car seems, there'll always be another one.
I am not saying my car is perfect, I was making a statement that the dealer would not give extras for free. I find no reason for another member to insult me for that, Do you??
I agree, there's no need for insults. My guess is that it wasn't meant as an insult, just in light-hearted jest. I hope you don't take offense, and I hope you stick around.
No matter what dealer you go to, unless they're keen to do you a favour or keen to get your sale, they will always try and charge you for extras... my friend had to pay extra for car mats as well.

I hope it was and if I did get it wrong my apologies.
i was kidding lol, stingy dealer tbh.
wasnt being serious matey
No worries, but I did get 250 pounds extra from them for my old car.
Dad's rather good at haggling, its part of his daily job. When i've been car shopping with him he generally says 'whats your best price' and they say £xxxx so he tells them its too much. So then they ask what his best price is and he says £xxxx (Lower than money he has). Then meet somewhere in the middle. Then look at the bits that need sorting on the car, say i want 'this this and this done'....oh and a valet.
When he bought his rover 75 maybe 6 years ago i think the asking price was about £15k and he got it at about £12.5k plus new rear light (Bit broken off the corner), bit of missing trim replaced, full valet and maybe a service.
I think it's easier to be hard on dealers with extras, servicing, MOT, because you know they can get it done. Also because it's a business and not a 'person', even though it is probabaly a persons business
When I've been privately selling a car, I put only a small margin so that I have a little haggling room, but I also want a quick sale so I normally put it at an attractive price too. Most people in the UK (I find) are not good at haggling, and would rather just see a good deal in the advert and go for it. That's what I would rather offer.
Personally you can wave your cash all day, I don't sell for much below asking, and that's the experience I've also had with buying private. Of course I've never been in dire straights with a car and finance, so never been in a hurry to sell.
Not discouraging haggling, I would rather get an extra few pounds off a purchase.
