Apart from the AA man - he's really scared of fiats
I'm not a deisil lover per-se - but if i was going with tke kind of car you want - it would have to be a TDi - you simply get better performance and better economy. Nuff said.
My dad's Passat TDI has changed my view on bog standard run of the mill diesils - previously is was only the BMW 535D that ever impressed me.

I must admit that I think the Honda is still the best bet. They have a slightly stodgy reputation, but the VTEC engine is a beauty and the build quality is brilliant. I have owned three different Preludes (for my wife) and my cost of ownership was pitifully low as nothing goes wrong.
Does the SE get the Bose sound system? That is pretty good amd you will appreciate it on the motorway.
The cost of Honda spares is higher then for a Ford, for example, but since nothing breaks that's not as big an issue, just services are not cheap from a main dealer.
Ordinarily, if someone were looking at an Accord I would be tempted to recommend a BMW 7 series E32/E38 as they give more luxury and similar build quality with a great pride of ownership, but I guess that you really don't want the fuel consumption or the insurance costs. I would go for the Honda, the price is good and it will go for aeons without serious problems.
(Thanks Evilmunky)
Eagles may soar, but weasels never get sucked into jet intakes.
Thanks Brucelles, that sort of reinforced what I was thinking. 7 series is a little extreme though, cost of insurance would be ridiculous as would fuel and parts, much as I'd love one
I don't think the SE gets the BOSE system, which I'm thankful for, as doing some reading yesterday I found out that it uses a seperate amplifier at the back for the sub/speakers which makes it a bit of a pain in the ass when upgrading components as let's face it, BOSE stuff is generally ess aitch eye tea I think it's the Executive model that gets it, but I should be able to swap the speakers in the SE model without too much hassle.

Thats the only real difference between the two models. However, if you can pick up the sport model do so. They have slightly different skirts, and 16" rather than 15" alloys. Which add up to giving them a slightly more distinguished appearance
The 2.0 models with a fecking MANUAL gearbox are a rarity enough on autotrader it seems

I just looked as well not many is there..
What are the figures on the Honda?
The TDI may go off the mark quicker but its not a quicker car I doubt, if you want speed you wouldn't be buying any of the above anyway
As said by butuz a 7 series may be a good bet, friends dad had an e38 one it was nice, very big as im sure you know..
I thought BOSE stuff was good?
the 2L Honda is 145bhp iirc. And you get a fantastic VTEC engine and not some rattly diesel
A 7 series is a ridiculous idea as I mentioned above.
And BOSE stuff is rubbish.
