    £1k Car Hunt

Car Hunt time and I need help!

    Criteria:
£1k or barganable down to £1k. Preferably less!
    Within 30 miles of Gloucester
Small and fun or a Coupe
    A/C would be nice
    Nothing French or Italian
    No Rover or Vauxhall
    No Golfs
    No Rust

It's for my dearest and it's her birthday Friday. I'd love to do this for her but it has to 'right'.

Oh and colours wise consistant is good (i.e. All one so no mid-red's) and black is better.

Example she likes (too expensive) is this little beauty
    Vimeous : i7 7700K | 16Gb | ASUS Strix Z270G | GTX1080 | 960 EVO 500GB NVMe | 850 EVO 500GB | TX650W | NZXT S340 Elite | Dell U2713H + 17" | 10 Pro
    Willowin : i7 3570K | 16Gb | ASUS P8Z77-I Deluxe | GTX 660 TI | 2x 1TB 840EVO | Sugo SG05BB-450 | Dell U2713H + 17" | 8.1 Pro
    Svr : X2 4200+ | 2Gb | ASUS A8N-SLI Premium | HD6870 | SonicFury | 8x 250Gb (2x RAID10) | 3Ware 9650SE-8LPML | Seasonic 700W | CM Stacker 830 | XP Pro
    NAS : DS1511+ | DX513
    W : Dell Precision T3610 | E5-1650 V2 | 16GB | Quadro K2000 | 256GB SSD | 1TB HDD | 8.1 Pro | 2x Dell U2515H

Its a shame your not keen on a rover, the 214 (bubble shape) is a cracking car in terms of Horsepower and fun. I know a few people with them on various plates. I guess a 1.25 fiesta could be had for that money.

Youve basically got 2 choices at that money for something fun i reckon, either you get something old, but properly fun (e30 325i, early MR2) or go for something a little bit newer but a little more naff (hyundai coupe, toyota paseo(which is a decent drive to be fair))

Since i assume she doesnt mind an older motor (iirc its a 70's celica now?) I'd go for a 325i touring as theyre still nice looking today, and came with all the toys (you'll find one with AC & full leather for that probably, and all tourings had sports suspension)

£1000 is going to be tight even the 20+ year old 924s are more for one that'll run. With classic cars like that you need to spend more or the bill for repairs will soon overtake the original outlay.

I'm looking at £1500 on an MG Midget in the spring. Should be fun - but I'm also going to set aside £1000 for repairs just incase, don't want to have to sell in on for pennies because I can't afford to it on the road!

The sweeping exclusions reflect a mix of car bias, likely reliability and G's taste.
G has had her Celica for hmm at least 7 years and got used to the comfort, performance and other such boons (power steering!). I'll be after recirculating A/C simply to control my hayfever in summer!

You have given me a thought. The 306 is should be on the list bit G is not a fan unless it's a convertable and I think they're over priced next to ZX's which handle almost as well.
A ZX Volcane with either engine might do. Can't find one yet....

I mean no offence to Vauxhall owners and lovers, they make/have made some fine cars, however the current sub-£1k batch can't justify itself enough. Worthy but even at peanuts prices, dull.

Rover? MG yes but even then I'd be woried about bits falling off. G does like the big 'uns (800 and 75) but we don't want a barge and her brothers 214 was a money pit and we can't afford that.

The E30 would be genious and probably more reliable than the more recent stuff.
Anything with a toyota badge and some sporting inclination defintely has G's attention.
Same goes for Honda but as Shad points out the CRX is a no go as they'll be rustier than the Celica! (for £1k). A nice 1.4 3dr Civic or imported Lude might do nicely.

    Any more suggestions?
It seems there's nothing local to us so far. Makes me wonder if half the car market has been sunk by our floods!

You could pick up a decent honda prelude for that money which is pretty sporty.

100nx, 200sx, mx3 and mx6 are probably also an option.

You may get A/C for that budget as well.

Some nice suggestions there, not sure on the 100NX though

The Rex is interesting though I've no idea how expensive to run it'll be (Hull's a touch far sadly)

Spotted a NA Supra on the trader (will find the link later). Bit of a barge but she'd love it. Will check insurance later on both

That white Supra is a lover Dan's really only selling it because he's managed to fix one of his other cars

I'm sure G wont have a problem with Insurance on it.

    Will be checking insurance later.....

    Spotted:
    Supra
    MR2
    Lude

    Your thoughts?

Ignore the Lude price, it's a non starter, but similar would be nice!
