Wish me luck - bike test booked

8.40am monday, gypsy lane in leicester

    Going to get murdered

But I'm fairly confident in a not-cocky-but-as-long-as-i-concentrate-ill-pass kind of way. Instructor was dead chuffed with me today, said if I ride like I did today I'll pass (except the notable exception of failing to stop at a zebra crossing when a pedestrian was waiting ).

But apparently, Leicester has some of the worst inner city roads in the country, and Gypsy lane is the worst test centre in Leicester, AND 8.40am Monday morning probably isn't the most in demand test slot. But you should be able to perform comfortably anywhere at anytime right? There shouldn't be an 'easy' time. But Shires MT have trained me well *ninja pose*

    Wish me luck!

Just remember your lifesavers *every* time you change direction (even moving around a parked car) and you'll be fine

What bike you doing it on?
Hopefully it won't be raining, the emergency stop is much harder

    Good luck with it!

I can't believe it's 7 years ago I took my bike test, time sure flys.

My own CG125. Pretty bang on with lifesavers now. It's just the stupid mistakes occasionally. But only made one in a three hour lesson (going over a zebra crossing) so with any luck if I'm on the ball I'll be fine

As someone who has taken a lot of tests in my lifetime (4 driving/riding, 5 flying) and spends a bunch of time preparing others for tests, I have one piece of advice for you. Ignore your errors. If you screw up enough to fail, you'll be heading back to the test center. If he doesn't tell you the test is over, you're still good, so forget about it! Don't obcess about one small error and make bigger failing errors because of it!

I've had 3 lessons at £70 a pop (3 hour lessons 1 to 1 tuiton though). Though I've been riding on a CBT for nearly 2 years, so I didn't need much roadcraft help, just need telling to be religious about my routine when coming to a junction.

Don't drive already but I've had lessons, found a bike much easier. I'm just not used to the size of a car and my road positioning is always bad (or I think so anyway) which really damages my confidence.

Will see how I go tomorrow!

Re: Wish me luck - bike test booked

Usefull, i have been driving a car for 2.5 years, i drove a scooter for a year, roadsense is fine, just i think il have to learn the gear change on bikes.. cant be that hard though right?

Thanks for the info, im gong to give it a go, then jump on a 125 for a year i think. Then when im 21 i can try something a touch larger if im still into it.

I think that having licenses for things is usefull even if you dont use them

Gear changes aren't too bad at all. It's different from a car. I find it a bit easier than a car, but some find it a bit more difficult. But as with a car you pick it up soon enough. Experience is the key, though any bad habits you've picked up driving a car will get you in trouble with bike instructors (a lot of them tend to have an anti - BMW bias ). Do a CBT for a day, get your certificate, then you can make your mind up what you want to do after having ridden around with instruction for a whole day .

Good luck. I remember I failed my first test but got luck second time round. Just relax, don't even think you're taking a test, just think yourself as one of those VIPs who's being escorted by nasty bodyguards hehe. You can do it mate. Sleep tight.

Re: Wish me luck - bike test booked

    Passed, 3 minors.

Well chuffed, though its not the same as a car, 3 lessons and 1 go at a test and passing seems pretty good

Quite tired though, because as soon as I'd finished that, had to work and we had a killer of a day!

I thought I'd failed twice. One on my emergency stop - wasn't perfectly controlled as I had to put my right foot down instead of my left. Next was pulling into the test centre, was behind a white transit that was driving on the white line so couldn't see ahead, indicated right, moved to the right of my lane, saw a car coming and thought I could beat it so turned without paying attention realising I cut the corner by a good 2 metres. Examiner scolded me for that one lol.

Cheers for your wishes of good luck everyone, I'm sure that was the magic that made it happen
