What do we make of the new Autotrader

Those of you who find it interesting to spend time on autotrader browsing, will have noticed that they have upgraded their search engine.

Personally, I think the old one was faster and easier, even if it gave you less options to chose from. They are trying to be too smart.

I like it, havent used it extensively but it seems more in-depth

I like the idea of the in-depth search for colour/model but don't exactly trust it to bring me all the valid results. Under the drop-down boxes for fuel type/transmission and engine size most of the results are {unknown}. I'd rather just have a long list and filter them myself, like before.

It seems okay but the "email to friend" doesn't work anymore

it still needs a fair bit of work, but i do like the idea of breaking everything down into sections, makes it a damn sight easier to search for stuff! and oddly I dont notice any slow down....

So many times people list automatics as manual just because it has tiptronic of some sort - gits... Took me ages to find the right car.

I like it, I was looking for ST Foci/Mondeos on the old one and it rally wasn't filtering the 'ST' bit and was still giving me 1.6's etc.

The new one is more granular and makes it much easier to find them. Although Fox is right, people always put their cars in the wrong catagory.

Quite good filtering options now, but still limited on things like age ranges (looking for a 93 onwards Nissan 100NX). The tab key is now all but useless now which really hits accessability. And defaulting to national rather than 40 miles, what's that about?

I tell you what I think of the new AutoTrader.

Bloody expensive, is what I think of it.

A few years ago, it cost my dealers £25 per week standing charge, and about 75p per car per week to advertise.

Now it costs £16 per week, and anywhere between £2.20 and £4.00 per car per week

They've just lost a lot of cars from traders and dealerships, cos it's a lot of money.

Typical dealership has 40 cars, and that CAN cost up to £175 per WEEK to advertise them.

That's a lot of dough.

Agreed, and it's something like £35 to list a car as a private seller, which is quite expensive IMO.

im not sure of their buisiness plan.

Maybe they want less cars, and more quality.

All I know is, my advice has been against them, not for them.
