Not automatic but DSG

Yep, I've got the contact details for 3 people who witnessed it.
There speaks someone who has never driven a DSG car. It can be driven as an auto or I can shift gears using the paddles, it'll shift up and down the box in 8ms (compared to 100 in a Ferrari Enzo).
DSG is a fantastic option, it has the benefits of an auto and a manual but none of the drawbacks of either.
You said you have VW insurance for a few more days, might be worth checking with them as to the situation. I know my mum has insurance with Mercedes for her C Class and in any accident they will insist it is only repaired by Mercedes direct, no third party repair centres allowed - the VW insurance may do the same.
My experience with repairs tells me that I would insist it is repaired by the manufacturer, no one else - should see you right with a half decent hire car then too.
With it being a brand new car you want it to come back exactly as it was before.

VW insurance is underwritten by Zurich so I believe I'd be stuck with the Zurich claims procedure which I've used in the past. I kicked up one hell of a stink when I rejected my 'repaired' car a few years back and ended up paying out of my own pocket to get it sorted and then took them to the small claims court.
I'm not going through that again.

Getting an equiv car shouldnt be a big deal as it comes out of the other persons insurance, if you have a valid reason for having a equiv car then they WILL give it to you
I know this from experiences through a few people, they might just offer you a Tdi or Gti if you ask first time, if your that bothered then push for a R32.

Yep, I was surprised when I went around his house and saw it sitting on the drive, but then he's got the gift of the gab and can really lay into people verbally if they're taking the mick. He doesn't have much luck because he bought another new one last year (wish I had that kind of money ) and some lunatic in London decided to hit it with his bicycle while my mate was stopped at the lights.
Luckily there was a police van behind him and the cyclist got arrested when he tried to do a runner after shouting at my friend for having the audacity to be stopped at a red light Think he had a couple of screws loose.
Couple of years ago someone smashed into the back of my managers TVR Chimera convertable whilst he was stopped at a red light.
As it needed a new carbon fibre back making up, he was without it for most of the summer, and they tired to palm him off with a 1.1 fiesta. He moaned and whinged, and in the end they gave him a BMW 318. He was still gutted that he didn't have a fast convertable over the summer though......
A bit of an update - the guy who hit me car took an age to notify his insurance company of the claim, infact it took a letter from them to him to get him to get off his arse and contact them.
I'm not at all pleased that it took him well over a week to get his arse into gear despite me leaving him numerous answerphone messages.
Anyway, he's admitted to his insurance company that it was his fault so we can noe get my car sorted.
Been reading your thread as I love the r32s. Glad it worked out ok
Another R32 lover here, but tbh the older one looked better imo.

Have you been inside a MK5 GTI? How does the interior compair with the R32?
Some bits of my GTI aren't made as well as on the MK4 I had (the plastic used in the center console and gear box/handbreak tunnel isn't as nice).
But yeah, nicer looking and more up to date than the MK4, it was getting old.
