Can someone explain this about insurance...

Several companies have said they wont insure me, not becuase of who I am but because I dont agree to the following:
have no more than 2 cars in the family, if you require drivers under age 25
Both my brother and dad drive, but what's that got to do with insuring me

hmmm, only thing i can think of is if you get fully comp insurance, on most policies you can drive any other car with third party fire theft as long as its not your car... if your family is looking at getting a third car, they may be assuming one of those cars is fast/expensive and you will be allowed to drive it whenever you like? (as you're insured)

dunno, phone em up and ask em??

To be able to drive any other car you need to be insured fully comp on your own car and over 25 years old. This will enable you to drive any car Third party. Have a bump... you'll have to fix it yourself but any other road users involved... your insurance company will pay out for their repairs.

Right basically certain companies wont insure me becuase i'm under 25, and there's already two other drivers in my house.

Nox: I dont see how that would work. My dads got fully comp and so can drive both my and my bro's car TPFT like you said, but that doesn't allow me to drive any other car.

You dad can drive any other car TPO.

Since your under 25 you can only drive the car(s) that you are a named driver on.

I found the best quote was from directline. Tesco and Elephant are also very cheap.

hmmm, no idea. i've actually run into the same problem - my other half has a corrado, i have a 'classic car' with limited mileage, thats the 2 car limit... and i want something to drive to work in now i've changed jobs again :/ still, i guess you just need to find a company that doesn't have that limitation, or phone em um and ask them why?

I just did and its a case of the website not being clear. They wont insure you if any ADDITIONAL drivers are under 25, not the main policy holder. It's to stop people getting put as additional but using the car instead of the policy holder. If that makes sense.

yup, was then going to post that it's not actually the number of drivers in the household, but the number of people that would drive your car

    To stop people from "Fronting"

I know loads of young lads buying cars and putting their mam or dad down as the main driver. Majority of the time their parents will never drive the car... and the young lad is an additional driver. This way the insurance premium is lower and the NCD is duplicated from policy to policy. The bad point is.... the young driver doesnt gain any NCD but does infact gain driving experience which is also a rating factor that is taken into consideration by insurance companies.
