Now that was quite fun to watch.
Some cars were "business as usuals" others, were a surprise. Great to watch the cars with no TC.

Also great to listen to....no more pained spluttering of power...but yeah, watching the cars powersliding is fantastic!Great to watch the cars with no TC.
I had a gut feeling Ferrari wouldn't do well, although not quite that badly.
Good to see some teams making leaps forward, and shame Kubica played playstation rally at one of the corners else he could've been pole (no pun ) sitter.
That boy Vettel is the one to watch, think it was Schumacher who said it himself that he will be the next German F1 ace.
Hamilton is doing absolutely brilliant.. the amount of times his back end has got away from him but he's managed to stop it!
Apologies for the vagueness in my first post, I didn't want to spoil it for people who had not yet seen it nor knew the results.
Through the first session practice, you would have thought Ferarri would have done better. But where did BMW come from??!!
Like you said ACiD, he could and should have been on pole if he didn't decide to do some off-roading and Vettel is definitely something special in the making...need to see what he is like once he gets a winning car underneath him.
What surprises me most is how Hamilton just seems to have joined F1 and suddenly people just expect him to get pole and finish in the top 3.
Now all we need to finish off a good start to qualifying is for it to rain....
Rain + No TC + 700+bhp = Entertainment
What do you mean where did BMW come from? They're doing pretty much what they did last year
Kubica is also looking like he's going for a mega crash again this year
does anyone know what time the F1 starts? i'm sure it'll be tonight sometime is it?
might sit up and watch it..
I think it's at 3:30am with start of the race at 4:30am.
I'll be doing the usual and staying up till then to watch.
Kalniel, I wasn't expecting BMW to be mixing it so early with the Maclaren's and Ferrari's (actually the Ferrari's were very disappointing).
I managed to stay up for the fist half of Q2 and fell asleep lol. It certainly does seem to be sorting the men from the boys without traction control. Good to see honda doing a bit better, hopefully they will build on it throughout the season
Hamilton on fire as per usual , it wasn't uncommon to see him wagging the tail with the TC so it's fun watching him without it. Kubica might have pipped him without that little off.. hard to say.
ill be staying up for this gonna have to go to the shop and stock up on caffeine. i actually prefer silly o'clock races as it makes it feel more spcial

If Kimi was up there, that would be Hamilton's downfall tomorrow. There's no traction control to save his tyres from his gung-ho style this year. As it is, there's no threat from anyone (unless he's foolish enough to bang wheels with Kubica in the early running), so this looks like a fairly easy race if everything holds together. The Ferraris, as poor as they look, will be the strongest tomorrow. Shame Massa is still on his honeymoon really.
BMW are flattering to deceive. Yes they've been sandbagging, but I feel they've hit a nail on the head and the others haven't yet. Kubica is clearly very lightly fuelled - perhaps as little as 12 laps or so - he'll not cause Hamilton any problems tomorrow once the first pit-stops are over. It's a strategy which won't really fail, with the gap well spread-out between his team-mate and the Trulli in 6th. Worst result he should achieve is following his Nick home.
Vettel is doing very well, but BMW wouldn't have let him go quite that easily if they thought he was going to be a superstar. Let's remember that this is the 1st GP that he's properly shone in the dry, and it's not started yet. He seems a great guy though, so I hope he proves BMW and the slight cynic inside me very, very wrong.
No mention of Piquet yet? Oh dear. It was hard to judge from testing, but now it's carried over into the weekend.... If Renault thought Heikki had a difficult start in 2007... Clearly the Renault is far from good, but it's not 21st poor. OK, he's not quite that bad either, but he's already given plenty of bait to those of us who were saying he was hardly going to follow in Daddy's footsteps.
Conversely I'm very impressed with Honda - it looked like they'd managed to out-do last years shambolic attempt at a chassis, but for once a seemingly panicky measure has paid off for them, and kudos to them for gaining back so much in such little time.
It'll be interesting to see how Rosberg comes through with what appears to be a well-fuelled car, and how much better Kimi can do than Massa did last season - the lack of driver aids should work in his favour, especially later in the stints with the Ferrari protecting its rear tyres so well.
For the record, Glock has received two 5-place penalties and will start from 19th. One for a gearbox change and one for holding up Mark Webber. Kimi should have had one too for holding up Kubica so badly. He only escaped as Kubica had already set a decent time, which is wrong in my opinion.
It would have made more sense to loan him to another team to test the waters - he's the youngest driver, so he needs to learn - there's plenty of time for getting to the top, and to prove he's not a dud. He's not been groomed for this like Hamilton. I think BMW still have the option for his driving in 2010 or something.

I don't see Kubica giving Hamilton much problems either, but they have been rivals since Karts so it's an interesting prospect, it will certainly be an extra motivator for Kubica to be able to challenge Hamilton.
Or everything can just go to pot 1st race, 1st corner ala Australia 2002.
I think it's going to be the starts which is going to interesting tomorrow.. no launch control
Although Hamilton is a "gung ho" style driver as you mentioned, he does have incredible car control and it never seemed to affect him before he joined F1. I think he will find the limits far quicker and easier than other drivers will, and control the car better on said limit. Just my thoughts though, he may very well simply swap ends and go into a tyre wall
I meant his tyres will deteriate faster than those of others.
Was watching them yesterday (Friday for those upside down) and Kimi was much kinder under acceleration than Hamilton in the race simulations. Like I said, last year it meant much less as the traction control mopped most of it up, so he suffered comparatively little, but I don't think he'll be able to carry qualifying pace through races as much this year. He'll just cook the rears, or grain them if he tries it early on.
No issue for tomorrow though, as he's got a decent jump on his team-mate, Massa is miles of the pace and Kimi is hardly going to make a challenge for the win from 15th.
