Get a 200sx
everytime I drive a vaxhaul with soft touch indicators I always have an overwhelming urge to rip them off and stab the stalks in my eyes, I really hate em.
agree on the need for a new modeo st....an st200 style afair, but in the new bodyshell..... might kill off all jaguar sales tho
Another car to consider....an impreza? you'l get a decent example for ST money.....theyre pretty damn thirsty tho, and the world and his mum seems to have one....
I really like the old bmw 8 series, but you might as well buy a petrol station if your going to do that.
I know that feeling.
I don't mind the half press that flashed your indicator 3 times. But when i press them fully i like them to stay where there are until they spring up on being cancelled (either auto or manual).
This is one of the many, many faults I have with the BMW mini. But it doesn't even have the half press, just stupid rubish indicators that bounce.
I just have this idea that If I'd decided on the new type-R, I'd have an overwhelming sense of disappointment every time I saw an ST.
The 2.5 engine is the lump from Volvo (T5ski). IIRC it runs at a higher compression ratio somewhere north of 10:1. Whilst limiting your room to play with boost, it does lead to quite a drivable car. Keeping sensible, the fuel consumption won't go miles off the chart. Hmmmm.... buy an ST and be sensible?
Id buy neither, but it depends on your budget. If I was looking at spending £14k ish id rather buy a Megane R26. That is THE hot hatch to buy and blows most of the competitors out of the water with power, handling etc.
Just a thought,
Hmm...spend the cash on an S15 and up the boost
But out of Type-R and Focus ST....I'd pick the Type-R but NOT the new one...or if it is the new one, import a four door version
ST to me is...well...it just doesn't seem special.
Really depends on your disposition and your intentions for the car.
I know for around £7k you can pick up an GT-R32 Skyline with almost 500bhp on tap (I know the seller).
I have considered an Impretza STI. But the insurance will be even higher, plus the running costs of those are probably far more in the long run as well. Not to mention all the silly boys in their 1.1 Saxos trying to race you off the lights.
Like I said, I'd probably test drive the ST, Type-R (both) and see. If I do see a nice STI specimen I might be tempted though ...
The car will be my day2day car, so travel to and from work, shopping trips etc.
Golf 30th Anni...... well it's 230bhp at least!
TBH day2day it'll probably be the ride of the ST that wins out. Only the Golf will get close.

I really would go and give the old leon cupra R a test drive. You might be suprised
It's not as focused as the civic type R (the old one anyway) but it doesn't look like a ford focus
There's tonnes of lazy torque, it's quiet on the M-Way, it's quite fun on the back road, stupidly fast when you want it to be (and if chip it), and still gets pretty good fuel economy, something that volvo engine can't claim yet it's so often washed over.
According to Clarkson the Focus ST is the best hot hatch to own. Maybe pipped by the Golf GTI. The new Civic Type R is a confusion of angles where Honda were going for the futuristic spaceship look. The only plus side on the Civic is that the engine can rev to 9000RPM. But that don't matter when the ST has the 2.5ltr Turbo lump.
Focus ST FTW
I so want one of these. In fact i'd have the Astra or Corsa VXR over the Type R.
