Oh, people...what a place
Words can't explain the sheer excitement of realising that, while the weather was dire, the roads were empty.
Feb 2004 was therfore, for me and Sair, a time of driving about, visiting castles and waterfalls, walking i n the howling winds and driving rain..
and driving ... a lot.
Now it has to be said here and now, that I was not in a VX220, sadly.
I had a very humble Zafira 2.0 DTi with 100 bhp.....but gallons of torque. It has the kind of "dont pack, just chuck everything in" size that suits me on holidays. Wet coats, boots, the lot...all in.
And they drive pretty well...its not an MX5 or a Ford Racing Puma, but its OK
And the scenery.......
North Yorkshire has big Dales, huge Moors and lots of roads with noone except sheep!
So....as it was too rainy to do any photography properly I convinced Sair to use her Fuji F700 to take a few vids.http://www.fuji.co.uk/digital/camera...eras/range.php
30fps and mono sound. It does OK.
So with 128 mb card installed and 320x240 resolution chosen, we had less than 4 minutes of film-age without going back to base and uploading.
We did OK....few deletions but otherwise......pretty good.
So, the route.....from Swaledale, we went up and over (going south) Buttertubs pass, where the wind was SO STRONG I thought I'd done a wheel bearing, but it was the roof rails humming
This pass has steel stanchions be the road edge and high tension steel cables between...but they are LOW....so you dont go too fast.....its a steep drop...and it goes WAY DOWN.
Then, the other side, having driven through some amazing rain storms and clouds, down to Hawes (rope maker Skii, rope maker )
Then we went to Askrigg (James Herriot town, the vet program and books from the 70's and 80's) down a side road, and back over the moors.and we are talking up 1 in 4.....the diesel is designed for this tho.
and as we crested the top of the moor....I convinced Sair to film a few longer sections, downhill, so that the loyal following of Hexus could see the kind of divine roads. You gotta visit people...just gotta.
Note: never went over the speed limit and some of the drop-offs from the edge of the road are not funny, so you gotta go canny.
You can see where it got bumpy cos Sair films the tax disk holder, then the sunvisor, and back to the tax disk holder, in a split second
And then....after some just fantastic smooth, twisty roads.....
you just gotta haven't you.....?
you gotta find a water splash
So we did.
and that night Sair, being a star, whacked it all into her MSI Hermes and got Moviemaker going.....and here ya go.
Enjoy
