2002 onwards - BMW 318 - What to lookout for?

I am looking to move from my MX5 to a proper car. I love the MX5 but its just too small for every day use.

I am looking at getting a nice 318 if possible, no older than 2002. I have about £6000 to play with.

I am wondering what advice any one could give me while looking for one. Is there any I should look out for? any known faults? etc

I would really like one with the M-tech kit but I think any minters will be out of my price range.

After an MX-5, a 318i will feel like a big lumbering slug. You could at least try for a 320i...

At least the 320i has a proper engine for a saloon. Albeit a small one.

I need a boot, thats why I am getting rid of the MX5. I have to borrow a co workers car most weeks just to get my work done!

People say I am mad to give this up

Maybe I am.... should I just put up with the impractical car because its so much fun?
