    First car

I picked up my first car today.

Its an R-Reg Puegeot 106 in a dark metallic red.

Its very nice, I got it for £440, and its in very good condition with the exception of the exhaust - which dad spent tonight patching in 1 or 2 places, and the spare tyre - whilst being legal, isn't by very much - so I'll need to replace it soon.

Drove it home today (~30 miles), and it seems to go quite well - its only a 1.1, but it'll do me fine!

I'll post pics tomorrow for anyone who is interested!

Oh, also - the Radio isn't working - it is asking for the Radio Code, and I don't have that, and the previous owner doesn't either - so I need to find a way to get it, any ideas?

(I'm probably going to replace it with a Head Unit with a CD player, but I'd like to listen to Radio 2 in the meantime!)

    Re: First car

MOT Certificate from last year shows a reading of just over 80k, so ~ 7300 per year.

Doesn't seem too bad I don't think, given the age of the car.

    Re: First car

If its mechanically sound then thats quite the bargain!

For that price I'd buy one just to use as a daily drive, to cut down on my horrific fuel bills!

    Re: First car

Yeah, Dad gave it a check before I agreed to buy it - and checked it again last night, and he couldn't find anything else wrong with it.

It'll last me a year or two - and will be quite cheap to run, which is all I need for a first car!

Sounds good, get some pics up when you've got it

    Re: First car

Bit of a bargain that car is that you got. I paid around £1k for my punto 1.1, which was my first car! I look forward to seeing a few photos! Hopefully that red colour won't be fading away over summer, my punto was terrible for it!

    Re: First car

Sounds like a good 'un mate, the Pugs are fantastic. You'll find they handle so well for a small car you forget about the lack of power quickly, just stick to B-Roads and let it dart between bends

On the code, try slipping the Radio out, on mine it was on a sticker on the top (Long shot, but worth a chance!

    Such a pretty car too

    Re: First car

I've just tried to slip it out - and I'm not able to - I'll have to get dad to have a go later on today!

    Here's some pics - the sisters camera is being an obstinate fool, so you'll have to make do with phone camera pics;

As you can see, I'm missing a wheel trim on the front right, but I should be able to source one quite easily I'd imagine - if not, it isn't really an issue either way!

Swallows are keen to use it as a toilet though, very annoying!
It does seem to do corners very well, your right - there doesn't seem to be much body roll at all, its a nice stiff ride - but not so much that going over a drain cover is an inconvenience!

    Re: First car

I got one of those radios on the table over there, to get it out get two jeweller's screwdrivers and stick them in the holes, that's how I freed it.

There is a little roll when you start pushing them really hard, hence I want to lower mine 40mm when I get chance, but they are superb little cars, just been for a nice weather blast in mine and boy it's fun

    Re: First car

Yeah, I've put some screwdrivers in there - I can feel 'em going past a latch of some sort - but wiggling them in either direction doesn't seem to make anything loosen/slip out slightly.

I'll get dad to have a go when he gets home, he's a bit stronger than me!

It should be really easy to find one, just keep an eye out on the side of the road, theres always lots hanging around where i live , so i guess it shouldn't be any different anywhere else

or go to a scrappy, and pick 1 up for like 50p....

    Re: First car

And we've just got the radio out - no suitable code anywhere on it, a few serial numbers but they're more than 4 digits.

I've not put it back in fully, as it's now just there to fill the gap until the new head unit arrives tomorrow or the day after.

(Do I have to tell my insurance about a new head unti? I dont think I do, but I'm not 100% on that!)
