What is it about German cars?

What's special about German cars that turns so many of their drivers into irredeemable cockbags? If someone flashes his lights at you out of the only lane that's moving for only going at the limit, it'll be a VW. the guy who moves out in front of you on a roundabout forcing a swerve will be in a Merc. The guy who tries to filter through traffic as if he were on a motorbike will be in a BMW.

It's NOTHING to do with the speed or size of things - you'll find the same asshole behavior whether someone's in a 3L Z3, or a 1.2L Polo. People around here cruise by serenely in their TVRs, Corvettes, Shelbys, Lotuses, etc, and do nothing that could be viewed as asshole behaviour (speeding, sure, but never where it's immediately dangerous for other drivers in front & behind). But only those in german cars manage to act like the biggest cocks imaginable

What is it about the German experience that turns you into the kind of prick that would make the guy calmly cruising past in an Aston say "what a dick"?

Re: What is it about German cars?

It's one of the unsolved mysteries of the world hexxy. As soon as you purchase a BMW you instantly forget where indicators are and how to use them.

Apparently though, the cockbags are moving from BMW's as they're all getting labelled as such and moving across to Audi's now. I've seen this myself near the M61 at night on the way home from work. All the muppets blocking the sliproad to the M61 by plonking themselves in the lane to go straight across are now in TT quattro's, A4's or even the odd BMW.

an audi managed to reverse into my stationary bright red car, from a distance of 15 metres, along the high street, claiming he didn't see me.

I got the old light flashing for going under a bridge which gives me priority the other day.

That is what you get when you mix the errr fairer sex with a BMW.

I of course greeted her by driving my car straight at her and stopped so she couldn't get through and waited for her to reverse.. then gave her the finger of course.

A bloke I used to work with overtook on a blind corner. Wrote off a car coming the other way. Fortunately, nobody seriously hurt.

He was driving a Ford, by the way.

Oh, and the police were quick to attend. They got out of the car the numpty wrote off.

Moral of the tale - idiots drive all sorts of things, and if it's bad hitting a bright red car, what about one with stripes down the side and blue lights on top?

For 2007, considering the top ten alone, 16% versus 28% (SMMT). I think you forgot about the 3 series m'dear.
I'd say 'premium' cars tend to attract the cocks more - something with 'image' and 'branding' etc. Buying a lexus probably appeals as much to their ilk.

Yep, the other day (in a BMW) I pulled out of the inside lane of a 70mph dual carriageway to go up behind a 106 doing 40mph in the fast lane, of the otherwise empty road, rather than just undertaking it, to be greeted by the driver giving me the finger and pepper shaking gesture and the passenger turning round to give the same. I pulled into the inside lane and undertook, I know it's not big or clever and honestly not something I do often, but their behaviour had not exactly set the cleverness bar very high. At the end of the carriageway they pulled up behind me in the queue at the roundabout and proceeded to beep and shout abuse.

I've found the worst drivers round here drive the latest shape Vectra SRI's with the 1.9cdti engine. Them and the women in the R reg Renault Scenics with several dozen unstrapped kids clowning about in the back.

A guy I know had a similar experience with gobby drivers some years ago. When they similarly pulled up and continued the abuse, he got out and went back to have a "word" with them about it. For some reason, they went rather quieter and dialled the obnoxiousness back significantly.

Perhaps it was the (police) uniform he was wearing?

Apparently, according to his account, their expressions while he lectured them were a picture.

Then there was the time a bloke overtook right down the outside of a long line of traffic in a 30mph zone .... until he realised he was overtaking an unmarked police car at the front of it. Then, wearing a sickly grin, he dropped right back along the same queue and tucked himself neatly on the back of it.

Re: What is it about German cars?

And I bet, Saracen, they learnt more that day than getting 3pts and £60 fine through the post 2 weeks later.

And on the issue of German cars, the majority of cars my father has had in my living memory have been rear wheel driven German cars. (I can only think of one which wasn't). Oh, and to give you an indication he's a member of the IAM and a RoSPA Gold rider. Not all German car driving people are those with a distinct lack of courtesy and patience

Re: What is it about German cars?

Today for me it was a van driver, annoyingly I cant remember of which make. Firstly he was kissing my bumper for about 3 miles on a dual carrageway in the lefthand lane though not enough for me to care/slow down and make him overtake. However he then undertook me on my approach to a roundabout at red lights with only a tiny gap at much speed, causing my slow braking to be emergency stop braking.

Then going round this roundabout he did not stay in his lane, causing the car to my right to horn him.
preceding down dual carrageway in slow queue of traffic was quite uneventfull however at the roundabout he turned right from the left hand lane. dont think he indicated once either...
