A 1998 renault megane to replace my metro.
The car is in good condition and my only gripe is the lack of CD player.
Can I change the head unit and retain the use of the steering wheel controls for volume etc?
Ta!

Yup.
Just need an appropriate adapter cable. Oh - and during CD use the main car display will probably go blank.
Picking the car up on weds so will update the thread with pictures when I have the car.
Its a 1.4 Liberte in dark metallic green, 78k on the clock 1 owner from new and the back window is plastered with national trust, RSPB and national heritage stickers. The radio was tuned to Radio 3. I'm fairly confident its not been thrashed!
Clutch is nice and low and the gears are all there and positive. Brakes are a revelation in comparison to the metro. Salesman was perhaps the most chilled out man ever. Tossed me the keys, said to take it out for a test drive and he'd be back in 20 mins as he was dropping his colleague home.

Reminds me of when I test drove a Seat Leon, they just let me out by myself so I could tear down some country roads
We've had to meganes - one a W reg and one an N reg - one has been very very reliable and other one lasted two months! Good luck with yours Quite nice cars overall for the money.
The metro I am selling.
Roll on weds!

old style look so much better than the new style
Thats a nice Megane, a mate had one for a while in pretty much the same condition as that, only it had been used by a farmer, inside it smelt like he had left a skunk in the glove box !!
I have the one of the style after that (1.9 dci, 01 model) (but not the big bum style)
nice when you chuck it into a corner isn't it
nice colour too
good choice matey

looks nice. how are the seats? becuase in my experince (99 laguna) they suck.. the only bad thing... The french can make cars that look like arses but somehow they cant make seats that fit...
no lower back support atall, actually makes me want to curl forwards away from the seat. very little side support and I end up using the center box armrest thing as an armrest...
....to think that over the last 9 years somone has had to sit in these seats and done 130k miles!
other than that the 1.9dti is nice.. the paint on yours looks a LOT nice than mine. thousands of scratches down the sides...
I had a 1.6 version of that car, lovely car until I killed it. It was surprisingly chuckable and nippy round town and done me a good years service of haring back and forth across Scotland before the head gasket let go and I had to move her on.
