    Dawn patrol

Ever wondered what the view's like from Stonehenge at 5:30am on a Sunday?

    A bit like this:

Unfortunately they were closed to non-booked visitors so the best pic I could get of the site was over the fence.

Still, quite impressive, perhaps more so while it was eerily quiet. I came back via the mounds at Avebury which again, was lovely at around 7am, so quiet and peaceful, and empty!

I highly recommend making the effort and getting up early to enjoy the empty roads and crisp sunshine, it was absolutely fantastic, despite the chilly start. A few more pics here

I see redx only... just me?

I live so close I walk the dog there - it's quite amazing isn't it? Going at the time you did is the only way to beat the traffic, and not get disturbed by the guns firing on Salisbury Plain Training Area (nothing to do with me... honest guv)...

It really is an amazing place. I'll have to get myself on site next time!

Not sure why you're getting bad images, do they work if you visit the link?

Working now... nice shots. Did the 7 have a windscreen once? Or is it a S/L?

We get there in the end

Thanks, yes it did have a screen and two doors like the silver one but the aero is much more fun, and lighter. It's closer to Superlight spec than anything else, just a few hp/tn short of an R300.

Very nice pics, looks like a good morning 'hooning'?!

and in answer to ur q, yeah I have been passed stonehenge V.early on a sunday morning! (also very late the night the day before!)

About 6 months ago went newbury - exmouth sat night in the small hours, then had to leg it back about 5 hours later to get to work in Newbury at 8am!

To say I was tired after work was an understatement!

Although some magnificant sites driving along the A roads that early in the morning

    Re: Dawn patrol

Drove past there at about 5pm on Friday in crawling traffic and then back past on Sunday in reasonable traffic at about 3.00pm.

Car was laden with 4 people plus camping stuff and was somewhat unwieldy to drive at speed but I can imagine it being a great road if the road and car were both empty.

    Lovely photos btw.

    Re: Dawn patrol

Yup I've since been told it's mega busy around there at just about any other time of day. Even at silly-o-clock there were about 5-10 people milling around, I thought it would be deserted. I think the site must be staffed 24 hours?

I think it's the A344 that goes from Stonehenge to Devizes, but that's great fun across Salisbury Plain although the 'TANK CROSSING' bits are... different!

I was inspired by Clarksons early morning drive of the Mercedes Black on Top Gear a few weeks ago. I think I might do London next

Thanks for the comments, I was surprised how well the photos came out, I was expecting them to be rubbish with the sun so strong in the foreground.
