    Thumbs up GPS Navigation Systems

Which 2 Types Of Gps Navigation Products Would Be Best Suited For A Customer Looking To Use It Primarily While Driving?

Portable & handheld, handheld & built in, in dash & portable, in dash & built in?

    Re: GPS Navigation Systems

I don't quite get the question, but portable and handheld (which come with an attachment for the car windscreen) tend to be the best all-rounders.

Inbuilt ones (into the dash or from car manufacturers) can be difficult to get used to, expensive to upgrade and not always the most up to date, however they do tend to integrate better with the car stereo to perform multi-tasking, and have larger screens.

Ones similar to tomtom tend to be more adaptable, and at least you can take them abroad, swap between cars etc. I prefer satnavs with the i-go software however.

It all depends on the 'customers' requirements, expectations and wallet.

    Re: GPS Navigation Systems

I have a Garmin Nuvi 310, very good little unit. Its got a great set of features including POI, bluetooth handsfree capability and its easy to update using the webservice. It tells you where the speed cameras are... and you can get an FM attachment that will automatically alter you route if there are accidents or obsturctions ahead (uses a radio traffic program).

This looks like one of those classic spam threads where someone totally new poses a question, and then a whole bunch of other totally new people all provide the answer.

Yes totally. But you often get spam threads somewhat like this:

    -----
kuey123 (totally new member): I'm looking for the absolute best one of <suchAndSuch>. Do you guys know what I should get?

Finn736 (also totally new member): Yes! You should by this <suchAndSuch>. It's the absolute bees knees at everything and includes these amazing features:

    a) blah
    ...
    f) blah

and amazingly only costs £29.99 despite the RRP being £66 million. Plus you get a FREE quality drive ratchet set with every purchase! And a FREE PEN with "YOU ARE AWESOME" engraved on the side!

    Buy now!
    ---

They get deleted pretty quick by the mods though.

    Re: GPS Navigation Systems

I have a GPS unit in my vehicle and I find it very useful when traveling in unknown areas (big cities, towns other than my own, etc.). BUT I bought my car used and the seller was extremely motivated to sell, so I didn't pay a premium to get it.

Just out of interest, can the N95 one actually be used in the car? I have never yet tried to use mine in a car, as on the odd occasion when it does pick up a GPS signal it seems to be fairly slow in syncing itself, and that is when I am stationary.

I can use my N95 (8GB) in a car successfully.

I actually prefer certain well known commercial software rather than the Nokia supplied software but I've had no problems on the odd occasion I forgot to take my Ipaq based sat nav system with me.

N95 can be used in the car, but with Tomtom you need external GPRS reciever, with Garmin you dont it will use Nokia's built in one.
