Re: Are you driving more economically this year?

i drive a small 1 litre corsa. so mpg aint bad, especially if im doing motorway journeys. problem is though, with this size of engine you tend to have to hammer it a little to keep up with anything, putting stress on the engine. it just takes ages to gain speed. i do enjoy a bit of coasting though, even if it is a bit 'dangarous'

And doesn't save you any fuel. (Unless you're actually turning the engine off, which is insanely dangerous).

Re: Are you driving more economically this year?

After passing my test I haven't been driving for even 3 months yet, so I'd rather concentrate on just driving well than driving economically. That said, I was taught to brake and accelerate gently when I can so I probably am kind of driving economically. Not that my 1.4L Fiesta can really power away from anything...

Indeed - uses less petrol to roll in gear than to coast...

    Nope!

Last year my average milage per tank was approx. 310.

    This year... approx: 220

    Huzzah!

(I do a lot more town driving now... to the train station... and its ragged there in the morning because I'm always attempting to actually catch the train.. Some might say I should get my arse out of bed 5minutes earlier...)

To fill it is about 50 litres too. Rock on!

Re: Are you driving more economically this year?

It doesn't seem to make much difference how I drive my car. If I drive it like a total tool or drive it like an old man, I still average 38 mpg.

    Same here

I can drop from 44 to 40mpg and still pay the same to fill up, and have a lot more fun hearing my turbo start whistling
