Unhappy W reg peugeot 306 cutting out when stopped

    Hi there,

Am having a really bad day. Have been waiting for months to get my own car and now ive got one it aint working properly.

The problem that am having with my 306 is that it cuts out when idle and if I dont keep the revs up when waiting at junctions the car will also cut out. My car is spending the night in the peugeot garage to be looked at tomorrow as it wasnt safe to be driven home. Am really concerned as to whats wrong and how much its going to cost. Any ideas would be much appreciated thanks.

    Oh forgot to say its a W reg 1.4 L 306.

idle control valve, dodgy oxygen sensor, blocked air filter, split air hose..

Re: W reg peugeot 306 cutting out when stopped

Got the car back from the garage today. Am now £80 down and still car not working properly!

    This is Peugeots report-
Checked as required and cannot fault, checked various sensor connections and checked wiring loom but all seem ok. Removed ic02 interconnector and found 2 pins corroded (3 + 8) cleaned up and lubed - ok on test. Possibly what caused fault but not cutting out whilst in, advise customer tests and reports any further problems.

Well I tested the car a whole 3 mile drive home and it cut out. Peugoet have offered to recover my car for a cost and then take another look at the car charging me by the half hour again. Do they think am made of money! My husband is now going to get his hands dirty and hopefully some kind people on her can tell him where to start on the repairs.

Just thought that I should also mention that the exhaust is quite noisy when starting the car after it has cut out. Some clouds of black smoke came out the exhaust today when my husband was trying to start the car aswell.

If you need to know anything else in oreder to help me then just ask.

i would complain and ask the orginal amount refunded as you only got 3 miles down the road, they have not done the job properly, take the husband with you and get him to start on them for taking advantage of you

sounds like a number of problems which might include the clutch letting out a little bit while not applying any throttle?

usually when you have black smoke coming out the back of your car, it just needs absolutely ragging for a few miles to get all the **** out the bottom of the cylinders.. (common problem with women owners, no offence )

Re: W reg peugeot 306 cutting out when stopped

Thanks ever so much for the responses.

My husband phoned Peugeot when I got the car home and they said they wouldnt refund as they did fix something.

Matty-hodgsons you could be right with the car needing a damn good drive as I bought the car 2 months ago and its sat in the drive all that time whilst waiting on the registration docs coming to buy road tax so the cars only been on the road a few days.

Where should my husband be looking on the car for faults/problems? He bought a Haynes manual today to help also.

Re: W reg peugeot 306 cutting out when stopped

by a damn good drive.. i don't just mean thrashing it though.. try and use all of the gears, and just drive everywhere in 2nd or 3rd for about half an hour.
just lifts everything out of the bottom of the engine and makes it run better

Re: W reg peugeot 306 cutting out when stopped

    I'd starts with;

    a) Check the air filter & pipes (intake is often behind the grill and will lead to a black box) it's a 2minute job... clear any leaves or other blockages.

    b) Check the exhaust manifold/exhaust just incase anything obviously looks wrong, as you said it's noticabally louder when it starts after stalling and will only take a second.

    c) Clean the idle control valve.

    edit;

I would push them for your money back. Tell them they fixed 'something' but clearly not related to the reason you took the car there in the first place. Keep on them and they'll more than likely fold because they don't want the hassle.

Re: W reg peugeot 306 cutting out when stopped

i would argue that the contacts were obviously ok even though they saw corrosion on none contact areas, there feeble attempt did nothing so its not fixed as that wasnt broke int he 1st place or it would be running ok.

Would I be better speaking to the brnch manager instead of the receptionist? The receptionist is a female mechanic so shes quite good at defending the place.

Whats the chances of it being the Oxygen Lambda Sensor? Been reading a few threads where this has been suggested.

Re: W reg peugeot 306 cutting out when stopped

very possible, but it should have logged a fault and they didnt find one.

yeh branch manager is always the best option, failing that if its a main dealer contact the uk complaints dept and moan at them to get it resolved

Re: W reg peugeot 306 cutting out when stopped

Just thought id give a little update.

The car is still sick. But after doing alot of reading on the net and speaking with a few people we have decided to change the coil pack. Bought one yesterday and hopefully my husband will get it fitted this week. Ill update when the new coil pack goes in and ive driven the car for a few days.

Thanks for everyones support so far.
