just make sure all ur lights work (inc fogs if fitted...), and your washer fluid is topped up...
make sure ur wipers work and ur tyres are above 1.6mm thread depth...
Pretty much anything else will be what theyre looking for that u wouldnt really know to look at...
I'm sure it'll be fine if those things are all correct

if its a DIESEL car, take it for a LONG fast run before.. get at least 10 hard miles under the tyres.
Fill your washer bottle too

just basically obvious things like checking your brakes work, filling up the water levels and stuff, check oil level.
check seats are secure
check all seatbelts work properly
check all the doors lock
check all the doors open from the inside and out
check the boot and bonnet both open and close
check the brakes (footbrake and handbrake)
'bounce test' all 4 corners of the car
check tire tread (at least 1.6mm)
check for 'play' in the steering
check all the lights work (including fog lights)
that's all i can think of atm.
good luck too
oh, and take it for a good old thrashing

I like to get the MOT done straight after a service - you often get a discount and if there's anything the MOT catches you can berate the service.

Just prepare yourself for the worst that way it's not too bad when they give you a couple of little bits that need doing and make sure the engine is warm it keeps the garage happy cos they can get the emissions done alot quicker
Take it for a thrash if it has been doing mostly around town miles = less chance of it failing on emissions.
Bit late now, but if your spare tyre is knackered take it out, if it isn't there then they can't test it
im done thanks chaps went fine

but if they dont fail if there isnt one, what stopped you taking the wheel out and saying "there you go... retest"

Thats exactly what I did, then went up the road to a competitor and bought a cheap spare.
but you only bought the new one after they had passed your car?
