GTR:Evolution - fantastic game - bit more forgiving than GTR-2 but better all round. (Technically it's an expansion to Race 07, but it includes all of Race 07 as well).

    Dont have a 360 atm

More forgiving than GTR-2? There was no need to make it more forgiving GTR-2 was great.

    Re: Ferrari FXX

trouble is, however good the physics on race pro are (im not convinced yet looking at the vids - when the guy isn't crashing into stuff like a spanner, why did they even use those vids?!) its going to seem very shallow in comparison.

Forgiving in terms of controller input/setup. I couldn't race GTR2 on a gamepad, but the options you have in GTR:Evo for fine tuning the setup make it doable and even fun

Really? I played GTR-2 with my wired 360 pad, and once I had fine tuned it, it was perfect.

You evidently have more control over your thumbs than I do

Download the race 07 demo from steam and see if you like it. If so, get the boxed GTR:Evo (black cover) as then you'll be able to install both an online (steam) and offline version so you can mod the offline one to death without affecting your online racing/validity.
