    D-Day for Double Decker Diffuser

Well it's April the 14th so we should learn today the outcome of Ferrari, McLaren, Renault and Red Bull's appeal against the controversial ‘double decker’ diffuser at the FIA’s International Court of Appeal in Paris.

The DD Diffuser appears (to great effect) on the Brawn, Williams and Toyota and I personally think it will be allowed to stay with all result from the last two races being finally confirmed, but what does everybody else think?

Have the DD teams behaved in an un-sportingly way? Is it sour grapes by the appealing teams? Have the FIA just over complicated the regulations allowing for this misinterpretation to happen and they should be held accountable?

Re: D-Day for Double Decker Diffuser

F1 is all about the R&D and incorporationg cutting/bleeding edge technology, which they did with the DD diffuser. They obviously checked the rules down to the n'th degree & I see no problem with them taking the initiative as it was all legal.
    You snooze, you lose.

Best thing is when Ross Brawn pointed out the possibility of loopholes when they were drawing up the regulations and suggested making them tighter, but the other teams didn't want to close them

It smacks of playground tactics, Ferrari are no longer the shiny pog they once were, they need to suck it up and stop behaving like whiney girls.

If, every time a team uses some initiative, they get shot down, F1 will become rather boring, rather fast. From the point of view of a casual supporter like myself, it's a total non issue.

Ferrari weren't the first to complain. And there are plenty of other teams who are protesting the issue, not just Ferrari.

Regardless, I don't think they should be banned either. Ferrari and McLaren battled out last season to the bitter end and now they will just have to play catch up. Brawn, Williams and Toyota fully deserve where they are at the moment, through the negligence of everyone else - as 0ID says, you snooze you lose.

McLaren aren't appealing. They're just tagging along to see what's what. BMW, Red Bull, Renault and Ferrari are.

You can't be penalised for being unsporting in a technical manner. It's either legal or it isn't. If it's declared legal they then have to decide whether to close the loophole from now on (so Brawn, Toyota and Williams would have to redesign their diffusers), which could be the case if it went against the spirit of the regulations, or they'd give confirmation that their designs will remain valid, and all the other teams would be free to race with the more inventive take.

Yeah, sorry It's BMW not Mclean. How could I forget after all last weeks rants from Mario Theissen about the DD.

Re: D-Day for Double Decker Diffuser

I was watching the new and it seems we won't get a verdict about todays hearing until tomorrow. If they do deem them now against the rules I think gav hit the nail on the head. Close the loop hole from now on..points stand as they are...and brawn toyota and williams redesign. fair is fair can't remove poitns for their own mistakes in rulings especially when brawn himself suggested there was too much wiggle room in them before the season began.

While I hope the rules aren't changed and the other teams should stop whinging I am fascinated to see if it's really worth 0.5secs the teams suggest.

If the rule is ammended then I would grin from ear to ear if Brawn went out and beat them regardless. It's nothing less than they deserve for behaving like school children.

If Rubens is to be beleived then his not to worried about the other teams getting equal diffusers - (Interview with Autosport)

RB: I tell you – whenever the McLaren crashed into me from behind, the diffuser was broken. I still had the pace, so it is not just there – it is the whole situation. People can say whatever they want, but I hope the FIA will have the same application as they did before the race – that it is good enough.

that's a good point and i think Red Bull are in a similar position to brawn, they've got good/decent speed from what i've seen and no special diffuser, although from what i've read their suspension doesn't allow for this new kind so they might need to be more inventive
