Today I drove a real car.....

Moby-Dick came visiting......and I had a quick blast of the Nissan 200 SX animal that he uses for daily transport.

To think I was selling front wheel drive Calibras (all well and good, nice engine etc) while Nissan sales men were smoking these ANIMALS AROUND on test drive.

Fair play to the Moby dude....he has a well sorted one......awesome thing it is

Rear strut brace, nice suspension and lots of money on tyres.

Massive front grip (thank you tyres ) and no Moby we were never in any danger of twatting the front....

One day, with more than 5 minutes practice I really shall make your legs go rigid with pretend braking

Joking aside tho....what a tool.....waste gate noise (PSHHT) and awesome grip. Nice steering, light and direct......needs harder brake pads, cos I can see those fading after along session, but it is WAY faster than most road cars, so they are forgiven.

Thank you Moby.....it was .....very very VERY nice

    I am most impressed.......
    You're a STAR

    as is your car

    :-)

It was fun , great to see the car being driven pretty hard! - the drive back up the M1 wasn't awesomw with being blown all over the shop by the wind

ps PSHHT is the dump vale - the wastegate is the one that sounds like a pidgeon fluttering in the glovebox, the BOV is more or less in line with the steering wheel so that where you hear the sound from

the more I think about that car, the more I like it....

within 2 minutes it is your friend.....easy to learn, fast as hell.......yeah it'll kick you up the bum if you're fierce..but what a nice car to drive fast.

    Wish it had been drier.....

With a few days in that, I could learn that car faster than most I've driven..... Nissan really did do a good thing that day

    I like

Zak, consider yourself lucky - I've not had a drive of it yet, and I've seen AND worked on it!

Then again.... I wouldn't trust me in that car!

Used to have an S13 but never really got to appreciate it before I swapped it for a Honda Prelude 2.2 VTEC. When I move to New Zealand next year (hopefully) the car I'll be looking for is the S15 'R' Spec 200SX (aka Silvia). 250bhp and 6 speed box as standard

Wastegates don't actually make any noise at all.

What you're hearing is the air rushing across the compressor side of the turbo. The noise is known as compressor surge. Feel free to point and laugh at those calling it wastegate

Belzebub - could you compare the 200sx and the 2.2vtec prelude please. Cos Prelude is something i am thinking of getting in about a year and a half. Cheers

the prelude isnt as lovely as 1 might think. yes its fast, but the CTR and probably the ITR hav much more go in them. personally, i'd choose the ITR as there rare as the hump backed camel snake.

To be honest I never really drove the 200SX enough to get a good feel for it whereas I did with the Prelude and that was a very impressive handling car.

If you want great reliability and a front wheel drive car then go for the Prelude.

If you want better tuning potential and rear wheel drive then go for the 200SX. I'm now driving an MR2 Turbo so I'm biased towards rear wheel drive now

Theres also more space in the 200SX for rear passengers (not much more though) and in the boot. The Prelude is very cramped for a 4 seater.

Looks wise personally I think the 4th gen Prelude looks better than the S13 and S14 200SX's.

Don't think theres much difference in price between them. For a good 10 year old example you're probably looking at £3000-4000 at the moment ?

At the end of the day its never good to take someone elses advice about what car to choose. They both have their upsides and downsides but both cars are great value for money and both great fun to drive as lots of people who appreciate a car have them. So its really down to you taking both for a good test drive and see what you really like.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks, confirmed my idea pretty much. I quite like 200sx, but with the amount of rain here it would be far too much worry as its rwd. On a race track that would be fine, but day to day it might be a bit of a hassle. And i ain't planning to mod it atm.

Thats the price i'll be aiming for. And in any case after a mighty 60bhp 1.1 pug 0-60 in 14 secs anything will feel like a rocket
