Tigra Stereo (Zak? You're a Vauxhall man :P )

The stereo in my mum's Tigra only has cassette playback facilities.

How much would it cost to get the one-up model of the Blaupunkt (can't remember the exact model) radio which has a CD player? It'll need to be the right model to make use of the multifunctional display on the top of the dashboard I assume. The 1.6 Tigra has the one model up with the CD player... Is there one available anywhere for the 1.4?

Probably more than its worth because it will have the connection to the seperate display. You would be better off buying a normal one that doesn't use the display. It will then just display the date or whatever it does when the radio is off.
It you really want to get the proper one then ebay? for a second hand one from someone that has upgraded
I think some sony headunits also have connectors that can be adapted to use the display

possibly stupid question.. but how easy is it to remove the old stereos... only saying that cos hopefully i'm gonna fit my new sony cd/mp3 player in my mums car tomorrow, not sure how i'm gonna get the old bugger out.. maybe a hammer/chisel approach

if ya ring your nearest Vauxhall dealer, they do a new one that will fit for (a lot of dough) about £180.

It'll connect to the display etc.

But it had crappy control....really badly layed out Its a sub franchise, made by VDO Dayton.

The OFFICIAL CD is either a 300 or a 500....and you do have to get the right one.

Some Vaux dealers (excluding ourselves) can get you a Re con of the original for about £100.

I changed the stereo in the GF's Corsa in about 5 minutes. Took the standard one out, plugged the new one in with the adapter I bought from Halfords, and that was it. Display does not work, but then it's not like it matters or any thing, just keep the origianl stereo for when you come to sell the car.

OUCH!! £180?? That's a tad more than we're prepared to pay I'm affraid!! I was hoping to get a second hand one or something for more around the £50 mark!

Took the standard one out

thats the bit i'm needing help with i've managed to take out the display above the stereo, but that doesnt seem to help.. do i need to inscrew the four screws which look like they are holding the front facia of the radio on (they are allen key jobs i think)..?

else i might just resort to a crowbar...

You dont need to remove the display.. You need to remove the four allen key bolts from each corner of the headunit, then using something long and thin, I use bicycle spokes but coathangers 4 inch nails etc work equaly well, insert into the holes a couple of inches and the headunit will just pull out. It you are using spokes you can push them to the side to grip the headunit to pull it out, otherwise you will have to pull it from the tape deck

Or you could buy some stereo keys, then just slide them down the side and pull it out

Aye, it's held in by 4 grub screws and it's also got a nut on the back of the cage as well.

ok.... so i'll need to unscrew this 'nut on the back of the cage'... before trying to pull the stereo out - where abouts 'on the back' is it, and whats the easiest way to unscrew it... i think i need smaller hands/arms?

i really am struggling with this... need to find some long thin rods aswell... how come theives can just knick them in seconds! arg...

The nut on the back of the cage holds the cage in, you won't need to remove it to pull the radio out but you will need to remove it to get the cage out before you can put the new radio in. What car is it??

found one bit of decent metal rod.. cant find anything else.. dont really want to sabotage my lil brothers bike to get some spokes from the wheels if i dont have to i really am getting nowhere

If you can find another bit you should be able to do one side at a time, they don't need to be very long 2-3 inches. I cant remeber if the bolt screws from inside or the outside of the cage, I have just had a look at an interior pic of a mk3 astra and the location of the radio is gonna make it a pita if the bolt screws from the outside..
