Sky Insurance (No not the T.V/Broadband people!)

    http://www.skyinsurance.co.uk/

Awesome service If your a member of a car club then usually you can get 20% off with Sky, also with Adrain Flux.

Give them a ring, they were the cheapest when insuring my 200.

Thanks, I tried them today, they wouldn't quote me due to my postcode!

Have you had a look at Pass Plus? Might be worth a go.

The AA insured me for my first year (£1400), I then moved to Zurich (weren't called Zurich Connect when I went to them first) and got a slightly better deal with 1 years NCD (£1100). As others have mentioned it might be worth trying Chris Knott.
I know that you haven't had much luck finding an Owners club (EDIT, found these chaps http://www.hyundaiownersclub.co.uk/) but it might be worth going through them and asking what sort of offers they have available for members. I'm with the Volvo Owners Club and I have seen some good discounts being offered by Chris Knott, I haven't tried them (him?!) yet but I'll give him a ring when my insurance comes up for renewal.

One thing you could also try is seeing if you could get a better deal by adding in you parents. I found that it pushed the price up by having both mum and dad on my cover but with only mum on there the price came down by about £100!

There are some insurance places which offer the ability to put the car in the parents name and just add you to the policy but I wouldn't suggest going this route as it is a bit of a "Grey" area and it could invalidate any NCD you (had) built up for the duration fo the policy.

Let us know how you get on,

    Cheers,
    Harv
Hyundai owners club looks pretty desolate, and they haven't got deals with insurance companies

Chris Knott wouldn't quote me... bad postcode apparently, i'm in a decent area 45 minutes away from Manchester not the centre of Baghdad ffs

    Re: Young drivers car insurance

Just thought I would update the thread and let everybody know how I did.

I ended up with Adrian Flux they were £250 cheaper than my renewal and £150 cheaper than my current insurers best price, also because Chris Knott and Sky Insurance aren't competitive on ''high risk'' postcodes,

(What aload of BS, my postcode is M46 which is about 30-40 mins away from the center of Manchester, and the area has always been known as an area that older retired couples live in, really high risk! I have a street full of curtain twitchers for christ sake.)

Oh and they aren't competitive either if your car is parked overnight on the road.

    Just my feedback.

Has anybody else has similar problems?

    Re: Young drivers car insurance

One thing i'd recommend is adding a parent with a high no claims to the insurance. Adding another named driver seems to bring the price down for some unknown reason. And there's still no need to actually let them drive the car.
Check you best quote again with one of your parents added as a second named driver.

Yeah I added my Dad on the policy (58 with 9 years NCB, as my mum doesn't drive) and my quote didn't change at all

NCB won't apply if he already has a car policy in his name

Best bet is PassPlus or similar methods. My policies haven't been too expensive tbh compared to some people

Yeah I know that lol, as it's the main drivers NCB and details that is taken into consideration, I was just saying that usually adding a driver with experience and a long NCB will drop the quote slighty and I was confused why it didn't this year.

Last year my quote dropped by £120 because I added my Dad onto the policy, also fyi my insurer this time said that because you have 1 NCB PassPlus is now irrelevant, might not be the case with all insurers though.

    Re: Young drivers car insurance

    Hi again mate,

Just thought I would drop by on this thread to see how things were going.

You are not the only one with regards the Pass Plus longevity, I was told that after my first year it didn't really count for much too.
That was with the AA and I got a similar response from Zurich.

Sometimes I wonder why I bothered doing it, yes it is good for going that little bit further and trying out a few different scenarios / roads but in all reality you probably get about 5-10% off (maybe even less than that) your first years insurance... which is likely negated by the cost of the Pass Plus lesson(s).

If they offered a guaranteed 10-20% discount I think it would be a heck of a lot more attractive to young drivers. I took my test when I was 21 so not really that "young" when considering you can start learning when you are 17 (or is it 16 nowadays?), I reckon all the companies have a set standard for young drivers, similar in how they do surveys (i.e. 16-20, 21-25 etc.) whereby they give you a naff deal until you get to around 25.
I was even told by the chap I bought my car from that their own insurance (that you get free for a year when you buy a new car from them) won't cover anyone under 25. Sad state of affairs really as it is the younger drivers who are less likely to be able to pay these astronomical rates (and yes I know that they (we?) are more likely to have accidents but how many more are caused by old people driving around in a Metro, blind as a bat?).

I got an NUS brochure through the mail the other day and they reckon Endsleigh Young Drivers Insurance are pretty good for young drivers... didn't have any luck with them though as they couldn't even find my car! I remember you mentioned that you had tried them though, so maybe not so good.

I also spotted a new advertiser in their newsletter from 4 Young Drivers, might be worth a shot, These Peeps are another possible alternative but it looks like their insurance is tied to specific cards (Renault Modus, a car that I can only wear, not drive!). Again might be worth a shot. On the site they have some slightly dodgy footage from Fifth Gear about which is safer in a collision, a Volvo 940 or a new Modus. Forget the fact they carved chunks out of the Volvo before the test (intentionally making the 940 weaker) to prove the point, it was interesting they didn't put that little motor against a new Vovo like mine (a C30)!

Sorry to go off the rails there a little!

I really do wish you all the best of luck my friend, in getting something that will be both suitable and affordable. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I found that adding both Mum and Dad to my policy pushed the price up by around £200 (they are both great drivers so it wasn't as if they had 24 points between them or anything!) but I am aware that other factors can play into the price you end up with (as you have mentioned in earlier posts) so it can be easy to suggest possible solutions that might not work out for you.

Please keep us informed on how things go.

    Cheers,
    Harv

    Re: Young drivers car insurance

I would agree with tocbg here, PassPlus is next to useless. Infact the online discount I got was more than what PassPlus discount I got. But I couldn't have both, naturally I opted for the online discount.

As he already has insurance where he uses his NCB he cannot have a second policy using the NCB discount also, some companies allow it, most don't. On your policy he will have 0 years NCB, otherwise it can be seen as insurance fraud, intentional or not you have given them false info.
