    Cheap Young Driver Car Insurance?

    Alright, folks?

Hoping that you could point my friend in the right direction for his first car insurance.
His looking at purchasing either a MG ZS or a Fiat Stilo, don't ask.

Anyway, he's not had any success on finding insurance that's below 2500 quid, fully comp.
Now was hoping you folks might have suggestions on good no fuss insurers/brokers for young drivers with competitive quotes.

    Thanks!

    Just doesnt exist

Has he done pass plus? Has he tried adding an older driver as a named driver (such as his mum)?

They are the 2 main things that would bring the quote down. 2500 seems pretty decent though for the cars he's looking at.

Re: Cheap Young Driver Car Insurance?

cheap insurance for a young male driver...... actual lol!

Sorry all laughing aside, dont use sites like moneysupermarket.com etc, more often than not, if you do all the hard work and go to all the insurers sites it will be lower than the what what moneysupermarket etc are quoting.

Also try and add a few older drivers on parents, aunt and uncle etc?

And finally as stated above 2.5k really doesnt seem bad for the cars he's looking at.

    Edit, how old is he?

Re: Cheap Young Driver Car Insurance?

Direct Line wouldn't quote me on an MG unless it had tracking fitted, and I'm 22. Lack any no claims which is an issue...

Few tricks above might help, plus you could always try a broker (and ask them how to get the quote down as well). Options like limited milage might help...

Re: Cheap Young Driver Car Insurance?

IF either car was the 1.4 he should find it cheaper. If not Endsleigh are alwasy keen to snag young drivers for the first year or two though they'll rarely drop the pice as your age rises.

Assuming the engine is bigger than a 1.4 find a different car.
If he is seriously considering spending £2500 on insurance ... buy a different car.
If he's being forced into a parental hand-me down they should know better and help him out or .... well you know

How much will the car be his? If he can share its use with his parents, say 50% of the time, then try and insure them as second drivers.
If they will drive it more like 75% of the time get them to insure it with him as a second driver. He can pay the extra premium. However he may not earn any no-claims (insurance expert anyone?), I forget.

Re: Cheap Young Driver Car Insurance?

Try directline and go on as a named driver, you still get ncd.

My girlfriend is doing that and her TPFT premium is £250pa (and she's 18). Peugeot 205 though.

Re: Cheap Young Driver Car Insurance?

Worth trying a vehicle slightly more off the normal really. I mean I got a quote to add my 17yo cousin to my 110 and with me (24, 3yrs NCB) and the Girlfriend (25, No NCB) and him it was only £190 with breakdown on NFU.

NFU give ridiculous quotes though. Can you go with them even if you live in the city?

I meant that they seem to be giving people quotes that are ridiculously cheap. My mate got insured on the same car as me for quarter the price. He does live out in the countryside though. I need to ring them to see if they'll insure me, but I dont live, or particularly drive, in the countryside.

Hitman speaks the truth - if you want a car with lots of presence, go for an old Land Rover - although it's a 2.5 Turbo Diesel it'll be so cheap to insure compared with a saloon of the same size. It cost me £400 FC when I was 24/25 on my Ninety. Was down to just over £200 when I sold it last year.
