theyre not actually keys - they are a modified version of the system which would open a garage door when you drive toward it. i do think they have been modified in some way but im not sure - they work out when a police gun is fired at you and fire a lazer back at the same second from behind your grill. something like that..

Interesting stuff. I use a bluetooth gps linked to my PDA and some rather groovy software. Just keep the database updated using a free service and it warns me when im within 30sec of a fixed camera or a published mobile camera position The software also does door to door navigation with both map and voice guidance. Another interesting thing about it is that it gives you an indication of your true speed (signal strength / satelite lock reliant) and as has been stated before my spedo reads around 10% over.
Been reading about this on scoobynet, everyone swears by either the Origin or the Road Angel, but more and more people are using an ipaq because you get so many more features, sat nav, pda, camera detection ....
Think i like the pda option
have you got any more details flibb? what software/hardware etc? i'm looking at getting <something> and the pda option may be exactly what i'm after...

The current best buy PDA is the IPAQ 2210, can be got for around £225 (have a look at dealtime). The reason lots of people use this is it has onboard bluetooth, has a CF slot and a SD slot. I didnt have the wonga for this so got a 2nd hand toshiba E750 on ebay for £140, this has all the same features as above.
GPS unit. These come in a variety of flavours, wired, bluetooth and CF. Lots of people use bluetooth gps as you can mount them anywhere in the car. Wired units and CF units have to be physically connected to power and the pda. Bluetooth you only need to charge. For me bluetooth was the best as I want to use it away from the car. CF would have been the second choice, but would have used an antenna on a extension cable.
Software. Most people seem to use Tom Tom 2 (version 3 has just come out). This gives voice guided directions and you can add speed camera warning too it for free. The speed camera warning is tells you 30 secs to a camera and then 10 secs. The database is updated from the safety camera partnership database and covers fixed and mobile cameras.
Lots of info and reviews

Cheapest option is to get a cheaper pda without bluetooth and the CF slot, gps would be a wired serial mouse type. The GPS could only be used in car, as it requires 12v power. Not all cheap pda's support serial gps receivers so check out the link above for what works with what. You do need a fairly hefty storage card for maps etc, I have a 256mb, its nearly filled with maps a voices.
My setup is a toshiba E750, fortuna clip on bluetooth gps, arkon powered amplified speaker mount and tom tom 2. For me this works great, and its only mucked up twice with directions. All sat nav systems have the odd wrong direction or out of date road as thers only 2 mobs that provide the map data. Oo yeah and if your getting a good fix it provides accurate spedo measurement, my mondeo is 9% out.
If you need any more info just yell.
thats really handy, thanks. That tomtom software only has one minor flaw i can see, its not p900 friendly... still i have an ipaq i use for work so all may not be lost yet
