I've driven LOADS of cars today.....

Scenics, Freelanders, Golfs, Vectra ..... BMW.....

and best car WITHOUT a doubt.

Mitsubishi Charisma GDI with 100,000 miles on it....less than £2000 worth.....

    awesome....HOW FAST ? very........well...for a car that does 47 mpg

If ANYONE doubts Japanses build quality.......dont. OK...horrible plastic dashboard ...and......URBAN CAMOUFLGE seats (no kidding.....CAMO VELOUR )

    but what a tool.....it'll tear a Vectra/Mondeo/406 a new a hole......

top top value....if ya see one cheap....dont fluster..buy it

and COLD aircon......blimey.....most 100k cars it doesnt even WORK on...not this.......MONSTER cold

top gearchange (as alays in Mitsu) and biullet proof. The starter motors on Jap cars seem.........like its easy as pie.......but old Vaux/Rover/Ford.....struggle

by the way...GDI is a petrol....in case you got confused

What engine had the Charisma got in it?, I know we had a 3.0V6 or 2.5V6 one at work sitting outside rotting for over a year without any use, the company just wasted a beautiful car in the end.

Often tried to get that as a pool car without any luck... No i always got the screwed up honda accords, But out of interest how does the freelander feel in comparision to say the Zafira?

It has a 1.8 Gasoline Direct Injection lump.

I.E a petrol engine that injects the fuel directly into the engine, rather than mixing it out side.

This is why it can nudge 50mpg, under low load it injects less petrol nearer the end of the comp stroke, and IIRC the pistons have a little ramp on them to help direct the charge towards the spark plug.

Right, I am none too sober ATM, so this post and others may go sideways, just hold on and enjoy the ride, or summat

The platform in question is to the best of my (limited at best) knowledge a Mitsu design, which Volvo use to churn out the s/v 40.

The Volvo has different outer metal work, different trim (ment to be more upmarket) and a diff engine range, but I am fairly certain they share some powerplants.

Don't forget that Volvo have often badge engineered their smaller cars to keep costs down. Your very own car is a Volvo badged Renault powered DAF, and none the worse for it.

volvo actually brought that bit of daf to build the 340, bolted a load of new bits on (like seatbelts) stuck their own engines in some of them and a manual gearbox.. oh and changed the external shape. innards were mostly the same thou..

didnt know the s40 was the same as a mitsu, they're not regarded as brilliant cars thou - in fact the 440 which came from the same factory was also a bit of a kippa. nevermind eh

S40's not a bad motor, the T4's armed with a handy 200bhp so not every one of them is a traffic light push-over! (oh yeah and quite a few police forces are partial to 'em as well)

Which generation of Charisma was it Zak? Rare car really as the first one suffered from not matching it's name in the looks department.
