    Re: GP season 2010 underway!!!

    Well, it's shaping up nicely.

Thought the Mclaren and the Merc would have had more pace. But good on Virgin GP, been second best to Lotus all through testing and free practice to have Glock top them in quali.
Think top 10 all starting on the soft tire might give us an entertaining start.

    Re: GP season 2010 underway!!!

Looks set up for Ferrari very nicely - I think Vettel will chew through the tyres too quickly. Alonso or Massa though.. too close to call.

Button's doing his usual 'something not quite right with the car' so miles off the pace thing. Gotta be a worry that he'll get collected by the likes of Barrichello, though he should be able to make the softs last longer than some.

Well, a Ferrari 1-2. Typical to see that on Shumis return Oh, wait. He wasn't one of them.

Still, and interesting find, Mclarens little device seems to be working well. They're top of the speed trap, doesn't seem by much untill you see where the other top cars are. Quite a Margin over Ferrari and Red bull.
And Heikki Kovalainen and Timo Glock both posted a quicker speed through the speed trap to Michael Schumacher (free practice 1 anyway ). Great for the new teams to have that little victory isn't it????

I think vettel deserved the win today, just a shame he had a small mechanical fault, otherwise he wouldnt have been touched I reckon.

Alonso couldnt get close enough to pass because of the hot air he was having to travel through.

    Re: GP season 2010 underway!!!

anyone else find that very, very boring? and im someone that didn't even find Valencia last year boring. Seemed so stagnant - i wonder if the fuel stop were far more important to the race suspense than people have realized.

move of the day - Alonso on Massa
fail of the day - Rosberg failing to pass the broken Vettel
of the day, one of the back markers (i cant remember ) taking a good bounce off and back on and across the track and just, just managing to not hit anyone.

Yes it was Nico Hulkenberg providing the moment.

I don't think it's the fuel that's made it boring. Just that when they don't pass as much at the pit stops as they're 2 seconds long you realise there's very little overtaking.

It's the Aero of the car keeping cars back, or at least that's what everybody supposedly in the know keeps telling us. Although Rubens managed it with his new Cosworth Engine on the Ferrari powered Torro Rosso. And Glock managed to pass a Lotus (can't remember which) despite their quali times showing there was only a tenth between the 2 cars.

But seems more drivers wern't willing to get close as it would have effected tire wear, and when they did, just weren't willing to take the risk.
If they had to do and extra stop and the tires weren't as big of an issue mabee they would gamble. No one's willing to dive up the inside and risk a flat spot on some presious tires that might have to last them alot longer through the race.
Just how do you make F1 more exciting? it's the single most troubled question that's been there for about 12 or so years.
They've been telling us the answer for that long aswell but no one's done anything about it.
Cut down downforce allowing the cars to get closer and increase mechanical grip through different and/or wider tires. (well so Martin Brundle keeps telling us anyway)

    Re: GP season 2010 underway!!!

I think the heat damped a lot of the overtaking today. Everyone's tyre's and brakes seemed on the ragged edge. Was over 40c there. Supposed to be 15-17c in Australia for the next time see if there's more overtaking then, with less strain on the cars.

Back markers were more interesting today imo.

Yep. I recorded the race then ended up watching the first 10 or so laps then fast forwarding the vast majority of the rest.

I think they should get rid of the compulsory pit stop to change to the other tyre type - let someone run on all softs if they want. As it is it just forces everyone to use the same strategy.

I have to say I quite like watching the drivers manage their cars at different stages of fuel and tyre wear, but they do need to get rid of that diffuser thing.

Double Diffuser banned from 2011, just a year too late really.

I agree, the tyre rule should be changed back now they're doing no refueling. One of the suggestions to make the no refueling thing more exciting is to force the drivers to make two stops. This is just as bad as the current tyre rule. Another suggestion of making the softs more aggressive is a much better option. Aggressive soft tyre and not forcing them to use both types of tyre is the way to go imo.

god this was like watching paint dry. I love F1 but there was no overtaking and lacked any flair at least last year there was a little overtaking.

Roll on april 14th and the motoGP season

    Re: GP season 2010 underway!!!

Unfortunately I was one who got caught up in all the pre-season hype.

It looked all set to be an awesome race but turned into a procession. Hopefully with different weather, and with a couple of races/aero upgrades we will have the season we hoped for!

    Or is that over optimistic?
