    Re: Golf Gti 1991

    N is a mk3 (more rounded looking than a mk2).

Wonder if the engine would fit in it?

Only one way to find out!

    Re: Golf Gti 1991

After spending time on the motor last night, we've just found out it needs a new subframe, Great.

Managed to pick up one for £350 - thats cheap! So, are there any VW sites anyone uses they think are worth checking out?

I have to wonder why you didn't check the subframe before you bought the car.

You've bought one for £350?! Where from? Was it the whole subframe or just the front (as you were working on the motor (unless you meant motor as in car, not motor as in engine)).

What did you get for your £350, just the subframe or the steering rack and other ancillaries.

    Re: Golf Gti 1991

We got the car for for only a couple of hundred quid, it had been sitting in the owners garage for a couple of years (since her husband died). TBH, you're right maybe we should have checked it more thoroughly, but it is 'genuine' car and labour costs are nothing.

In terms of the subframe et al, my friend who is a mechanic has only just sourced this and at this stage, I'm not entirely sure where we stand overall in terms of what is fully required.

I'm a motor cyclist at heart, but like to tinker with cars. If you're really that interested I'll feedback when we know more.

Hmm, the mk3 was out at the end of 1992 (J/K plate). It suppose it could be a late registered mk2 though or a cabriolet?

I'd be interested to know how it pans out then. £350 on a subframe for a car that only cost a couple of hundred....

    Sites - check my homepage.

My car isn't a dodgy green Moby, it's jade green

As for good VW sites. For techy stuff the Club GTi forum is pretty good. Have used it to buy some odds and sods off as well, generally not too bad, occasionally there are people on there that you wouldn't want to buy from. I'd say make sure you can go and view the stuff and pick it up, don't rely on it being delivered. If you just want a general friendly VW forum Volksdevil used to be pretty good. Not been on there for a couple of years though as I don't get the chance to go on Forums as much as i used too.

is it an import? N plate is 1996 iirc, so unless it's an import or very late reg'd vehicle, it's not a mk2 bud

I thought volksdevil had been closed down along with the V.A.G event?
