    Nurburgring back? :D

    http://www.planetf1.com/news/18227/6...ry-other-year-

Spa has been a constant feature in F1 since the 80s, but Etienne Davignon, president of the track, has revealed that they are looking into the possibility of alternating with Germany's Nurburgring.
I'd be absolutely chuffed if they brought back the Nurburgring..

Well the 'ring is every other year anyway, I prefer the set up we have now TBH just because i'd prefer to Spa there all the time.

This, Spa is a great track. Although if it was the Nordschleife rather than the GP track it'd be totally epic, but that's not going to happen for many reasons.

Yeah, I mean the full fat, manly version of the track. F1 cars should definitely be allowed round that .

    Re: Nurburgring back? :D

If it's the full fat Nordschleife then OMFG yes. They'd have to spend a lot of money to sort the surface and buy a lot of tyrewalls, but I reckon the cars are safe enough now and I don't think there's a F1 driver who wouldn't take your arm off for a chance to do it, his comments don't seem to say that though.

Spa for the modern F1 Nurburgring, would be a terrible shame, Spa is always a fantastic race.

    Re: Nurburgring back? :D

    Never going to happen.

The north loop's track surface just wouldnt meet the requirements to have racing held there. Not to mention the lack of runoff's, and all round safety.

Also I doubt the cars would actually be able to make it around there, they would ground out on the carousel. Also I imagine the potentioal for fatal accidents on a few of the crests dotted around is quite high, given the speeds the cars can achieve.

If that was the case then it would be pretty incredible, but as I said in my other post I don't think that will happen. There's a few problems, firstly the length of the circuit means marshalling becomes a lot harder/more expensive, as does TV coverage, I don't think the TV companies would be too impressed with having to cover a track 3x the length of the current longest track. Also, parts of the circuit would need re-surfacing to race properly in a modern F1 car, I can't see them making it around carousel (not on the inside, banked area, of the corner anyway). Also, not sure how spectator facilities are around the circuit, but doesn't look too great around the majority of it.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

The article isn't talking about Nordschliefe, it's talking about the existing Nurburgring F1 track, and it'd be a dire shame to swap out Spa for it every other year.

People can't even agree on the number of corners, so the length of track is well up for debate.

Heidfeld did a lap around there a couple of years back (might have been last year), but he wasn't exactly pushing it. To be honest, if you took out the obvious safety issues (limited run-off, distance between marshals posts, camera feeds) then the only real problem would be the Carousel and the Mini Carousel, and they could just skirt around the outside of those.

Obviously due to safety it will never happen again, but as a track alone there's nothing to stop them driving it.

Air wouldn't be a problem - several cars faster than an F1 car have been around there, and the downforce is more than enough to keep them firmly planted. Of course they used to race F1 cars which had zero intended downforce (pre 1968) and they took off for a metre or 2, and the ramps have been ground down since then.

Webber flipped his car twice in a day at Le Mans in 1999. I'm fairly sure the 'Ring wouldn't pose much of a challenge to him.
