    Aint Fiats BRILLIANT!!??

Or not. Mine's just come home from the garage again - the power steering this time..... somehow, the PAS fluid had managed to relocate from where it was supposed to be, to inside the workings of the electric pump.... the chap at the garage unplugged the motor and the fluid went all over the floor. Out of the CONNECTORS for god's sake

So in the three years the thing's been in existence, it's had:

    Steering rack
    Front wishbones
    Front shocks
    Track rods & control arms
    EGR valve
Stem-to-stern exhaust because the EGR emptied itself through the cat, DPF etc
    PAS pump

What a nightmare of a van

    Re: Aint Fiats BRILLIANT!!??

Fix It Again Tomorrow. Cliché but it's true.

Only real experience I have with one was a mate who had a Bravo as his 2nd car. He(with muggin's roped in to help) spent more time underneath it than driving it, until one day it failed in a most spectacular fashion by emptying it's gearbox(literally all of it) all over an A road. Never a nice feeling watching parts of a drivetrain carry on without the car and no he wasn't ragging it or being silly, he never did; Karabashs can be very critical of your driving

Even mentioning the brand in his presence is enough to make him rather shouty to this day.

From my limited experience, my advice; flog it before something else breaks. Get something German or Japanese. Another cliché but I've never seen the internals of one become external of their own accord.

But surely the beautiful Italian design makes up for those shortcomings?

Yeah it would, if it wasn't a French design Those Doblos are hateful things too - you could lose entire suburbs behind the A pillars

    I forgot it's had a clutch & flywheel too....

    Re: Aint Fiats BRILLIANT!!??

Wow, your experiences seem far worse that mine, I had steering rack go in the first year (not new), but since nothing else has gone. Best hope nothing else goes funny.

Same van, different badge I think, from a previous moan about it I totted it up the other day, it's been in the garage for mending for a total of about 2 months - it's only 3 years old with 50k on it

    Re: Aint Fiats BRILLIANT!!??

    Hey Tumble.

How old is your van? I ask cos they never used to have electric steering pumps, that's a brand new idea which I'm sure Fiat haven't got yet?

    Re: Aint Fiats BRILLIANT!!??

    Is that a Fiorino?

Based on a Punto, but developed and built in Turkey. People I have known with Puntos have found them cheap & reliable, so christ knows what they did to the design to make it fall apart like that!
