Choices.. waaaaay too many.
Dunno what to go for really, I've always used cheapy performance tyres in the past, but I think it's time to treat the Clio to something a bit "posh".
Anybody care to share their thoughts?

Yokohama AVS Sport - bloody fantastic
These tyres just grip and grip and grip. They give great feedback too, really progressive as you reach the limit. The downside is that they are quite a soft compound so don't expect much more than 8k out of a set of fronts.
Very stiff sidewall also helps, and they've got a great directional pattern
Anything Yoko
What size you running? You're always going to have a trade off between grip and tyre life - Which is most important to you?
195/45/15.
Tyre life isn't a real issue. Grip, especialy in the wet is. 180lbs/ft of torque in small car in the wet = no grip
time to convirt to rwd?? drop a rover v8 in the boot maybe?
hughlunnon@yahoo.com | I have sigs turned off..
I've been very happy with a combo of F1's on the front and pilots on the back

something a bit special is the bridgestone re010.
specially developed for jap R type Honda's (Integra R) this is a super sticky tyre with a very stiff sidewall. The result is just one of the best tyre's you can get. Will last between 6 and 12k depending on how you drive, but you will love the grip and feedback. Its the only tyre i would ever put on my old ITR.

This true?
Wet or dry, they were fine for me.
I have A539s on the front of my MR2, only time I've ever slid them in the wet was tooling into a greasy roundabout way too fast, and even then it was easily controllable. I've never gone out of my way to hammer the car in the wet, but at normal to moderately fast speeds they're absolutely fine.
