Sounds like it
lads lads!! calm down a tad, not to every ones fancy, and i can see why, the clio has been labbelled as a bit of a shopping carrier for your mam sort of car, and is most cases, its true. but as you get into the Renault Sport range, the clio's are bloody good VFM, lot more sturdy than there other french rivals, and same sort of price for equalish performance, the 172/cup/182 are all very nippy hatches, faster than ctr's over a 1/4 is no easy task, but its bloody close though incase you wondered
would i get one? would i buy french hatch? a peice of tin crap rivetted together in a warehouse? YES! there a special french, like, Alsatian, not quite french not quite german, a perfect match of nippyness and sturdyness and reliability without the Yen like price tag. top cars imho
Errr.
It's a shopping car with more poke, isn't that the whole point?
The modern hot hatch started with the Golf GTI, a backroom special that made it into production.
It too was just a small car, that went and handled better. It was quick, but it was no sports car.
What it was however, as so often in life, far greater than the sum of it's parts.
By being based on a shopping car, it retained all of it's plus points, i.e a small practical car that you could use everyday, for the mundane stuff like commuting and shopping. But it was also capable of being driven for the simple joy of driving, and it delivered. In short it offered most of the sports car without all the drawbacks.
The clio is, despite being heaver and bigger (as are all modern hatches ) true to this formula, and it too succeeds.
The pug too seems close on paper, but in RL it falls short IMHO, haven't driven either but I know those who have, the pug isn't' supposed to be as quick. And I have had the 'joy' of a run of the mill 206, and the pedal offset is a killer for me.
Anyhow, back on topic, hope you have a blast David
