Hmmmm... it can be a bit boomy, but some of that is down to the cheapness of the speakers, and also the way the car is used... believe it or not it's a motorway car... so the primary usage of the stereo is to drown out the noise...

I'll have a sit in it tonight (I have to move it onto the drive when I get in anyway) and post what I think to the sound...

A couple of points about the fronts though, the Magnat fronts I got have the central tweeter which sticks out at the front, and we had to make a spacer for the speaker covers so they would go back on. A way round this would be to get speakers classed as "custom fit" which are designed to replace factory fit ones and wouldn't stick out, but obviously this would restrict the choice. Also, considering the positioning of the front speakers the stage is actually quite good, from the drivers seat that is, not so good from the passenger seat as you're right in front of the left speaker.

As I say i'll have a sit in it tonight and let you know better about how the 6x9's saound

Yeah that's the good thing about the Cinq. The front soundstage can be quite good. Shame the speakers are so small and crappy

Tom, my current HU has bass and treble controls... But that doesn't mean the bass/treble will sound good!

As it happens I connected an old hifi speaker up to it just now and it didn't sound bad... So yeah

Well, I had a sit in it last night, and again was impressed

The sound stage is quite unique as its predominantly sound from the rear but with the high range well defined at the front wrenching the stage forwards. I quite like it actually, the 6x9's give quite a lot of bass, and if you turn the bass up it can give out some loud booming bass, definately no need for a sub here

The sound always has a stong bass presence at whatever levels and at high volumes the bass becomes more pronounced. Because of the size of the cabin (teeny) I don't think you'd need an amp on anything as even the rear speakers are only about 18" away from your head Although best to remember that the more expensive the speakers (generally speaking) the higher the power rating, and in some ways it's worse to underpower a speaker than to overpower it, so if you want some Infinities or the like then it might be best getting an amp to give the speakers the power they need.

If you want a more pure/neutral sound i'd say to go for some round speakers (maybe 16cm) instead of 6x9's as the latter are designed to give a heavy bass presence. If you like your music loud and with plenty of bass then go with the 6x9's and you won't need a sub.

    Excellent Barakka, thanks

I'll invest in some nice speakers then!

What head unit is in your Cinq?

Dunno why I didn't post this earlier, but I can see no reason at all not to plug your MP3 player straight into an amp and not bother with a head unit at all. I've considered doing a similar thing myself.

It's an old Panasonic CD player, probably about 35W per channel...

As for the speakers... just seen these...
    http://www.mcs-direct.co.uk/acatalog...AL_OFFER6.html
Not the best speakers money can buy... but £10 !!!

They're custom fit ones, so will most likely fit under the speaker covers without having to make spacers like we did and will be a major upgrade from the standard ones... throw one of these in...
    http://www.mcs-direct.co.uk/acatalog...ial_offer.html
and you've got front speakers and MP3 playback for £101 !

Head unit wise i'm not sure if anyone still makes the ones with line-in inputs on the front that you could plug the MP3 player straight in to. Grundig used to but they are now RIP

Those speakers look great for £10!! Nice find!

I don't need the aux inputs to be on the front, the back will do. I'll just feed the lead under the dash

The most accomodating i've seen for this (on a budget anyway) are Blaupunkt where you can buy an adaptor lead (£7) to plug into the back that terminates in a 3.5mm plug for an MP3 player....
    Budget CD £80
    http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/prod...2ce08357261f17
    with MP3 playback £110
    http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/prod...2ce08357261f17
or there's this funky looking Pioneer for £110 - though not quite sure it would suit the interior of the Cinq and no MP3 playback on board...

There's a strong element of personal preference in Head Unit's though, and the web shops are all so competitive i'm sure you'll find what you're after

Well I've got a diagram of the inputs on the back of the existing head unit and it looks like the CD changer inputs aren't standard analogue left and right

Anyone any ideas how CD changers interface, and how I can "tap into" it someho?
