    Motorbike Lessons

    Hi

I have decided that now that I'm a lot nearer 30 than 21 that it would be a good time to learn to ride a bike, I have always wanted a large bike so in my infinate wisdsom I opted (well I've got to the point of putting my credit card details in but stopped short of pressing submit) to take the big bike course run over six days. Has one else taken this route? I'm a bit nervous of paying £650 on something i don't really have any knowledge of, any comments would be really appreciated.

    Thanks

Can you ride a bicycle? Do you drive a car? If the answer to both is yes then you may not even need six days, although you should be a pretty confident rider at the end if you do the long course....

    Go for it.

I'm 21 in August and hoping to do Direct Access as soon as I turn the magic age.

Got my CBT back in May.

Rave, I can do both reasonably well. How long do you think I would need? My credit card is starting to get itchy....I need to spend money on it

Well, it's hard to say TBH- it depends how well you take to riding a bike I guess. It took me about 20 minutes to get to the stage where I could ride about changing between first and second gear, and about half a day before I was a fairly confident rider. I was riding a moped around a field at the age of 13 though so real life might be a little different.

Where are these courses? Give me a link and I'll have a look at what they offer. TBH though I would have thought a three day course would be enough for someone who already knows the rules of the road and can balance a two wheeled vehicle.

Three days doesn't sound too expensive. I was thinking of going here http://www.kentmotorcycles.co.uk/training.htm, there aren't that many places in my area (East Kent).

Hmm, well they don't do a three day course, which is a bit of a shame, but oh well. I seriously doubt that you'd need the novice course, if you can actually keep a two wheeled vehicle upright and understand the concept of a clutch and gears then you're 95% of the way to knowing how to ride a motorcycle. Phone the people and enquire, I guess they'll probably tell you the same thing.
